My heart is completely broken by this, to see our beloved faith entering into such flagrant acts of bigotry and homophobia... while asking the world to respect the Baha'is of Iran seems so very contorted, so confused, so awful... asking the world to respect the Iranian Baha'i community yet at the same time to be condoning this hatred is astonishing in its ignorance and hypocrisy. It is one thing to deny GLBT full membership, to kick the out of community life, it is another thing to support acts of ignorance, hatred, violence such as this. People’s lives are at stake and they support this? My heart is broken for the Baha’I leadership that condones such hatred!

This evening I went to sit with the Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group, there were about 45 people.

After it was over, a gentlemen came up to me and introduced himself, and welcomed me... when he asked me what brought me there... I do not know why, but I suddenly blurted the whole story about being thrown out of the Baha'i Faith for being gay...

The man teared up, grabbed my arm, and looked me in the eye and said,

"how truly horrible, you will have no problem here" and went on to welcome me.

Maybe l should be thanking the NSA of the USA for their homophobia... through it all they have given me a new insight into what the Baha'i Faith really is all about, and have freed me to see what a truly spiritual and loving community is like, as I am deeply sad to say, it is most certainly not to be found in any Baha'i community, despite all the false promises and beautiful writings.

Orthodox Rabbis Sign Declaration of Acceptance

A group of approximately 150 Orthodox rabbis have signed and issued a statement which list 12 reasons why gay men and lesbians should be accepted within the Orthodox community.

The statement reads:

“Embarrassing, harassing or demeaning someone with a homosexual orientation or same-sex attraction is a violation of Torah prohibitions that embody the deepest values of Judaism.”

and..

“Jews with homosexual orientations or same sex-attractions should be welcomed as full members of the synagogue and school community.”

This is a huge step forward for a both the Orthodox Jewish and gay communities.

The most great Peyambulator is correct... most all religions have the same rules re: homosexuality, some however, still encourage folks and love them unconditionally and welcome them... the Catholic Church doesn't bother with removing anyone's rights for getting married...

the short answer: homophobia keeps local communities from teaching the Faith to the GLBT community... witness the SF Baha'i Center and their hostile attitude towards the Castro (where the center is!). I do not know of a GLBT person in SF with a positive attitude towards the Baha'is, even tho the Center is on the exit to the Castro and across the street from a Biker Leather Bar... lost opportunity if you ask me...

Spain: Government Investigating "Gay Cure" Clinic, May Impose Fines

The Catalan government is investigating a Barcelona clinic that is alleged to be performing "gay cures" and may impose fines on the business.

Policlinica Tibidabo in the Catalan capital offers pills and psychiatric "treatment" to convert homosexuals. Spain's leading daily El Pais said people who wanted to be treated are often followers of a particular religion which believes homosexuality is incompatible with their beliefs. "An investigation has been opened into this clinic," a spokeswoman for the regional government's health department told AFP. "We do not consider homosexuality as an illness, far from it." She said the clinic could face fines if the month-long probe concludes that such treatments are being carried out. A gays and lesbian rights association in Catalonia, the CGL, hailed the decision of the regional authorities. "It is totally unacceptable, in the 21st century, that health professionals are trying to treat homosexuality," CGL secretary general Antonio Guirado said in a statement. "You cannot treat something that is not an illness."

Kudos to the Catalan government. Meanwhile in America, Christianist brainwashing "ex-gay" camps and evangelical "exorcisms," which are nothing short of mental and physical torture, continue to be perfectly legal.

It is probably compared to any couple who want children, and cannot have them naturally and then do everything they can to have children, mostly adoption... they gay parents I have met (myself included) seem a little more attentive, in a way I cannot explain... for me it was looming fear that someone, or the state, or this religion was going to take my right to be a parent away from me. I ultimately ended up spending more than 9 thousand dollars in legal fees to assure me of joint custody. As well, knowing that many of us GL parents are being judged extra harshly, probably adds something to the mix... my son turned out to be great man, is doing well... and because of the bigotry and homophobia in the Faith, has rejected it...

I have long felt that religious institutions need to get out of the legal aspect of marriage... let them marry all they want to whom... but the legal aspect needs to stay with the people... it gives full legal rights to couple who ask for it, and allows religions to follow their bliss (or bigotry or homophobia or exclusion) to their own liking

Here is a link to the wedding video, my Son (our best man) and his girlfriend made as a gift to us. Everyone there is aware that the Baha'i Faith is homophobic, even the Catholic Priest buddy of our's who "blessed" the arrangement, which made M's mother incredibly happy! So I share this because I am unsure as to why this is such an affront to anybody... folks seemed (where) very happy for us... a friend came all the way from Florida just for the day! Now, when you kick out a GLBT Baha'i, you are effectively saying as well, we don't want these folks either... because I know for a fact that each and everyone of these folks (and more who were edited out for time) know of the Faith because of us. Enjoy! It was such a great day!

Exactly what kind of "seekers" would be confused by people who "practice it in a public or flagrant way?"

Do hetero-Baha'is practice heterosexual behavior? So we want to attract homophobes and folks who don't like a diverse spiritual community.

Practice... I am cracking up... my parents have been practicing marriage for 56 years... that's hysterical!
