Friends of SBJSA Statement:

The New York City Bar "REPORT ON LEGISLATION BY THE COMMITTEE ON REAL PROPERTY LAW" is based on a false assumption that SBJSA is "rent control."

Section III. titled "ARGUMENT" states "New York City is not authorized to enact legislation tantamount to rent controls Inasmuch as several provisions in the Bill purport to limit a landlord’s rights with regard to use and occupancy of the space, the Committee views these provisions as the equivalent of rent control.2"

Rent Control is then defined in this footnote:

"2 Rent control is generally considered and assumed to be a statutory scheme which places limitations on the amount of rent that may be charged and requirements for leases to be renewed or extended, and may include other regulations regarding the tenancy, including restrictions on occupancy and subletting."

SBJSA does not place any limitations on the amount of rent that may be charged. Therefore it is not "rent control" and the city is well within its power to pass SBJSA.

This sounds like a Trojan Horse to replace public housing with market rate apartments. As a candidate for Public Advocate Ive called for an independent audit of NYCHA to find out where all the money has gone.

Important update for this story is that SBJSA was submitted last week by CM Ydanis Rodriguez. Not sure why Brad Lander believes Albany would have to give permission to the City to pass SBJSA. No NYC corporation council has ever made that claim. Anyway- now that SBJSA has been submitted we will have a public hearing which will separate the FACTS FROM THE FICTION about SBJSA. My mother, sister and I had been taking weekly lessons at
the Painting Lounge as a way to relax and bond as a family. We had a tough year and painting with
Kevin Tarasuk provided an oasis from life’s heartaches and trouble. His
encouraging teaching opened up a new door of creativity and self-expression for
us when we needed it badly. And ours is just one of many stories. A few months
ago a student proposed to his girlfriend during one of Kevin’s classes. In a
city filled with injustice and crime the idea that a reporter would take
interest in a BYOB painting class and that the state would shut it down is
absurd. In the grand scheme of things this is not a tragedy but by shutting
down the Painting Lounge the city became a little bit colder and a little bit
less unique. No one wins when that happens.

You miss the point. The WIlpons on ashamed of the 1986 Mets because of the drugs, sex and fighting. Remember how they broke up the team in 87? Now ee have Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza throw out the last pitch at Shea and first at Citi? Piazza didnt win in NY!! But they were straight shooters. Doc and Carter would have accepted but the Wilpons didnt want them to tarnish the family friendly/ corporate world of Citi Field. Also now we have the Dodgers history dominating our ball park. Nothing against Jackie Robinson but he was a Dodger!!

When you are Doc Gooden you do whatever you want in the Mets house. I love that its organic. The whole wall should be covered with old Mets leaving their mark. This could be our monument park. Disorganized yes. low class maybe, but definately real, just like the Mets.

The Wilpons are ashamed of the coked-up, womanizing, fighting 1986 Mets. But Mets fans love those guys. Citi Filed is a sterile Ebbets Disenyland that denys Mets history - the good, bad and at times ugly history. Thats the Mets and we love it. Erasing Doc's name is a shame.
