No Android device allows unsigned apps

Well, sure, and you have to sign your applications yourself or set your Android device to be able to install non-marketplace apps (which include what I have been referring to as unsigned) to do this, but I'm guessing AT&T disallows even that.

We haven't had a chance to try out the Dell Aero for ourselves (the one displayed at CTIA was unfortunately turned off -- and it was AT&T's decision), but if Phone News's report holds any truth to it and the Aero's case is similar to the Moto Backflip, then AT&T will have disabled the capability to install non-marketplace apps with the phone's custom Android build.

Now that I do realize it, I fail to see what it has to do with my article.

I'm not anti-Linux myself, and in fact I use it from time to time on my computers. Just because I'm stating facts about the demise of Linux on the netbook market, it doesn't mean I have anything against free software or open-source alternatives to proprietary operating systems.

Gaming itself isn't pointless. As I've said in the article I enjoy it myself. It's just that I don't think the prospect of being able to add Ion 2 afterwards is something to be very excited about, considering that (as you've mentioned) you can game on other devices for a considerably longer period of time than on a netbook. And if I'm going to game on a netbook while constantly plugged into a wall, then I think I'd rather do it on a desktop. I would love to game on the go, but just thinking about the fact that I'll only be able to enjoy it for a short amount of time hurts.

Not a fad in general, but a fad for netbooks, quite possibly. It's obvious that most people who buy netbooks (since it's the "new" thing) will be put off by a new environment like Linux. And especially since those who buy netbooks are first time buyers who are looking to save some money on hardware, they probably never even heard of Linux before.

I know compatibility isn't a problem with Linux for most programs, but we're also talking devices, plugins, and other things that are typical for computer setups. Up to now I still can't connect my Nokia phone to a Linux computer.

Yes, that was one effect of Linux, but it didn't successfully replace Windows as an OS on ultraportable devices like netbooks.
