Sites like thereisnopagefold.com really don't help because it is arguing with absolute subjectivity, with no idea of the content. I think the point is, relaying to a client that stands firm with putting ALL important content "above the fold" is getting them to realize that it isn't the way to necessarily go. The key is, just like the 37signals site, is to making sure the content and message flow smoothly and consistently, however long that may need to be, and not letting conventions dictate content. Good post.
