Most to be honest have no idea what to include/exclude and a gentle prodding/coaching helps to find out what they are most comfortable with.

Re: SBTV - Share. It's amazing to see the journey you have taken since I first met you. I always share your story as inspiration to young people in schools across the country. Glad we got that sorted.

In essence I agree that we cannot tackle discrimination by having groups which it would seem on the surface are discriminatory in and of themselves. It makes sense but I would also argue that affinity groups are usually created because there is a need for some to actually find a voice in the bigger groups.

For example I recently spoke at women's network in an energy company. There was a fair sprinkling of men. Some of the women in the group were intimidated by the larger networks and part of my speech was to take them on that journey of confidence to not letting being a woman hinder them. To shape their conversations I took the opportunity for men and women to air some of their grievances and assumptions around gender, promotion and workplace politics. Could this have happened in any other forum? Of course, however I appreciated that the women's network allowed some to feel safer to air their views in such a group first and build on it.

On the face of it I also think that women's only groups prima facie seem to be discriminatory, but not every woman is bold enough to raise some of the issues they have in the open and like other affinity groups which cater to race or sexuality, we cannot ignore, especially in the larger organisations, that their are steep mountains to climb and sometimes there are people who don't have an outlet to get their concerns or worries out.

Re: Gradient Lair

Just to assure you that many of us men are out there who don't just see the world in a Christio-heteronormative lens. You are indeed a great role model and I have shared your video with my eldest daughter and will do the same with my youngest.

When we met it felt like we were family and I will always see you as my baby sis. Deal with it. LOL. But I must say I am proud of you and proud of your journey against the odds. Some very painful events have shaped you and I would not wish for anyone to have to go through but you have still maintained some strong attributes which help to shape the beautiful woman you have become.

I salute your strength. I salute your drive. I salute your feminity. I salute your bravery. I salute you.

Your brutha over the pond
Dave

Re: Let’s set some ground rules for email signatures, shall we?

In the UK you are required by law to include your company name, registration number, registered office address and place of registration. Why cant we just acknowledge talented woman for who they are (adele, lauryn hill, india arie) without them having to strip. What kind of message does it send to younger woman who aspire to be great artists too. Just my two cents as a pro feminist Dad!

Re: Are NGOs Killing African Entrepreneurship? - Business - The Atlantic

Although this article is two years old it still resonates but I want to pick up on a few points.
1. Across Africa there a number of large multinational corporations in minerals, mining, energy that are doing quite well without having any truck with NGOs
2. Too often we look at Africa as a homogenous lump. Such an article would never be written in such a tone about Asia or South America. We need to move away from this kind of thinking.
3. Yes NGOs do provide a drain in many respects in some of the economies still struggling with establishing trade opportunities. What would be good though is to have a look at some of the success stories coming out of a few countries like Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa and Botswana to name a few where entrepreneuralism is being encouraged and supported without the need for external patronage.

Re: [Video] Kirani City – Soca Artist Mr Killa pays homage to the winner of Grenada’s first gold medal

OK.
