I'm incredibly grateful for the amazing kaleidoscope of dining options we have here, and the fact that there are choices for every taste and lifestyle. People who ask for something better than status quo, and are willing to stand up for they believe in (like the writers on this blog) are part of the reason why this city isn't just another fast-food wasteland. Vegetarians and vegans are fairly large in number around the Mission, and awareness of the cruelty involved in foie gras production is even more common. To dismiss those who might object to it as "one person" and their "duck-loving friends" is shortsighted at best. (It's also ironic that Mr. Godby, in this same interview, cites admiration for Ubuntu's pastry chef, a restaurant whose name apparently means "humanity toward others".)

Re: Humphry Slocombe!

This is a tough one. We also were pretty delighted with Humphry Slocombe's entry into the neighborhood, and their wacky array of flavors. It's one thing to be daring and trail-blazing, and something else entirely to be rude and dismissive to members of your chosen community. Realistically, any lack of patronage from people who care about animal abuse probably won't hurt HS. But people (and businesses) who simply aren't nice usually end up paying for it somehow. And Jake at HS comes off sounding insufferably arrogant in the $ x $ interview.

Re: Review: Beretta!

congratulations on moving out of noe (i'm jealous) - i'd rather be down there than around the corner from martha's :(

Re: Universal Cafe!

I was thinking about this before, and I want to do a write-up on places that we REALLY wish would connect the dots and officially offer a vegan option. Then I want to contact the establishments and ask them to consider it, and publish their response.

Some I can think of right away:

1) Little Star Pizza - they can make it without cheese if you ask, but they admit that the crust has "a little butter" in it and therefore is not vegan. How hard would that be to fix?

2) Kara's Cupcakes - they bake from scratch with local, organic ingredients, and everyone says their cupcakes are amazing. But no vegan. Yet.

3) Houston's has the best house-made veggie burger, and I believe the burger itself is vegan, but the bun is not. So close.

Any other nominations?

Re: The Parkway!

I'd like to link Vegansaurus from a site I'm working on. It's to be an SF guide, and the content will eventually be profuse and not suck. The main link will be on this page:

http://www.sanfranciscodays...

There is a subtle reference on the home page as well.

I wanted to check and see if this is okay with you...

Re: VeganSaurus wants to be your friend

Yes, I want to be in this club.

Re: Medjool!

7-11 would be a classier choice for dinner than Medjool.
