so glad you posted on this subject.... we actually thought teaching empathy was so important that we brought in a designer-in-residence (from dschool originally) and blew-up our eship class @ columbia so we could focus on human-centered design- "empathy" from the get-go... it informs everything you need foundationally- relating to cofounders, employees, talking/understanding your customers... also what the hell to do when you do actually "get out of the building" and on and on... the students intuitively recognize how powerful it is from the get-go and love it....

We were really hoping Joanne could keynote. Our great colleague Sarah Holloway invited her and Joanne was amazing and inspiring. She really let it rip. It was our second university-wide entrepreneurship festival (not the business school). The students and alumni there were fired-up.

i guess I didn't get your main point... this is not people "getting cute"... wait til the VC's come in with "liquidation preferences" and "participating preferred" and "full or weighted ratchet" anti-dilution terms!
I am talking about giving your angels the right to maintain their pro-rata and not get diluted into oblivion- just like anyone else... see my point?

so glad you went public with this Fred- frankly it really takes the leaders of our community to speak up for the low-lifes to feel chastened....
