Once that participation declines we lose the ultimate check on governmental abuse, the voter. With 60% turnout in presidential elections and a pathetic 50% turnout in mid terms, it's hard to argue that we are not already there and that it is not a problem. Help the world however you want but surely you can take one day a year to vote. A National Tax Day Tea Party, I love the idea. If only there was some merit to what they were saying... I mean their own website does not even outline any sort of argument or alternative proposal accept to say that the national debt is bad and high taxes are bad and corruption is bad.
