I use CFE A on my FX3 and it works extremely well for what it's designed for (4K-I). I use it for b-roll, S&Q capture, etc. and since I'm usually doing short clips, I can clear it out quickly to a laptop, etc. What i DON'T like, at the moment, is the lack of portable data devices (e.g. Gnarbox) that support formats like this (PCIe-based storage). I might just have to build one.

Tue, 21 Sep 2021 19:44:31 awful. I use my mouse constantly and average at least 2 hours of usage (that's actual cumulative usage throughout the day, mind you...those 5 sec bursts of activity add up)... add WoW into the mix tested the TMS solution. spent most of my time looking at
cost/GB/IOP with EMC. Consequently, focused most of my energy on LSI
Warpdrive and Fusion I/O technologies. As a building block for high
transaction workloads, all of these solutions are great...however,
you'll also have to look at more than just the hardware to develop a
workable solution. For example, simply slapping these cards in a chassis
with *gasp* Windows 2k8 r2 Datacentre or a bog-standard Linux distro
with EXT3 is going to be a terrible way to implement. At that point,
you've bottle-necked on the FS moreso than the hardware. Using even a
simple change to XFS (esp. for large workloads) or, looking a bit more
grandly, Lustre/GPFS/SNFS, will enable to you create a massively
scalable and performance-oriented storage/compute system. And then
there's the matter of getting data in box...2GB/s processing/300K IOPS
handling is meaningless if you can't feed that data inbox...

Re: TMS RamSan-70 SSD packs 2GB-per-second throughput, up to 900GB capacity

Daniel,

The LSI Warpdrive is able to push close to those levels of performance with a price point < $7500.00 (i believe it was priced around 5K for the 300GB version I tested on). Similarly, bandwidth is one part of the equation but realistically, you need to look at the IOP handling of the particular drive...

cheers,

Dave

Re: TMS RamSan-70 SSD packs 2GB-per-second throughput, up to 900GB capacity

Boe_d....

OCZ /= anything close to enterprise-class drives from STEC, FusionI/O, LSI, Violin Memory, Pliant, etc. You pay to play in this particular market.

cheers,

Dave Graham

Re: Moving from Block to Cloud: Emulex E3S

E3S was backup. sadly, no longer offered as a product or concept. look at cirtas.com for an evolution of it.

Re: Get Into the Winter Spirt at Starbucks Today

just noticed that the Gingerbread Latte is back on the menu this AM. ;) Woo!
