I am seriously praying for you... can't tell you how many times I've been brutalized by Christians in general, stabbed in the back by well-known church members and dragged into my pastor's office to answer to accusations by people who got the ear of a man who can't stand to confront idiocy.

You are bigger than the "stuff" that comes your way. Remember who's sayin' what... keep it in perspective and then if necessary kick me in the teeth and give grace to the ignorant... Lord knows, mine have been kicked in enough to no longer feel the pain.

John, great point. in further view of the scripture, in CONTEXT, we see Paul states this as an aforethought in identifying God's elect. This is what clearly shows us God is in control and His sovereignty always trumps our immediacy. If God chose us to be like His son we then should embrace suffering rather than justify it to appease our troubled minds.

JVo, this series of posts are extremely important in helping people understand the emotional impact of their expectations and the hurt they carelessly and unknowingly inflict. However, pastors have the equivalent expectations of their people but are punished if they are careless or hurtful in kind. Over the years when I received similar comments (and I too received a diagram with stick figures with me at the back!) I would have loved to answer with as much biting intent and ire but we suck it up and bite our lips, if not take it out on our loved ones who quietly bleed for us... But reading this I understood your maturity and balance to respond in grace and truth.

This moved me... "When I am me—honest about my fears and struggles— my wife respects me and trusts me. When I am me, I sleep better at night. When I am me, my neighbors want to know about my faith. When I am me, acquaintances ask about my church. When I am me, God does great things through me. When I am me, God pours grace on me. When I am me, I have great conversation with God."

If only pastors could truly be themselves...

too bad this wasn't done here in San Jose. I would get in my car right now and drive to every Boarders and find the book! I got my SantaGaryVee wristband and display it in my kitchen with my Riedel stemware. Gary is a marketing powerhouse and we have a lot to learn from him.

JVo did a lot of catch up reading on your blog this morning and just dig the Prayer "series" of posts. I'm going to be praying that you get invited to speak at the next prayer conference coming to a city near you!
