Kundu and Palmer utterly misrepresent my organization, the Heartland Institute, and the information and peer-reviewed science it has published from some of the world's elite scientists.

To cite, as they do, notorious Web blogs such as the Huffington Post and DeSmogBlog as evidence of their assertions against Heartland is shameless. Truly shameless for an educator, as Mr. Kundu aspires to be.

Heartland is seeking only to have a debate about the science behind assertions that global warming has reached crisis levels and that human activity has been a major contributor to the increase in global temperatures.

We don't deny global warming exists, and we don't deny human activity played some role. For Messrs. Kundu and Palmer to impute such positions to us is viciously unfair.

Dan Miller
The Heartland Institute

Re: Political brainwashing endangers Marysville schools’ funding - Arlington Times

Mr. Palmer, like Mr. Kundu, misrepresents my organization, the Heartland Institute. In the above posting, Mr. Palmer writes, >>>They (the Heartland Institute) use these funds to promote there is no evidence for global warming. <<<

We do no such thing. Of course Heartland policy advisers and senior fellows on environment issues who write for Heartland know that the planet is warmer today than in times past.

Skeptics and global warming alarmists alike do agree that Earth warmed intermittently and slowly between 1850 and 1998, has cooled slightly since then, and likely will continue to cool for the next couple decades at least.

But that is not the issue. The question is whether humans' use of oil, coals and natural gas can cause a future global warming disaster -- and on that there is tremendous disagreement, just as there is about the forces that are responsible for recent, current and past climate changes.

This is the reason why over 31,000 scientists have signed the Global Warming Petition at http://www.petitionproject.....

The planet has not warmed to crisis levels, and human activity has not been a significant factor in the warming that has occurred.

Heartland is endeavoring only to debate the science and discuss the public policy implications. Mr. Kundu and apparently Mr. Palmer insist the debate is over. In fact, it never began.

Dan Miller
publisher
the Heartland Institute

Re: Political brainwashing endangers Marysville schools’ funding - Arlington Times

Mr. Kundu misrepresents my organization, the Heartland Institute, and its position on cigarette smoke: >>>"denying that cigarette smoke was dangerous."<<< The Heartland Institute does no such thing, and for Mr. Kundu to cite a web site, desmogblog, that operates solely for the purpose of spreading falsehoods agaisnt my organization and other free market think tanks, is shameless. For the record, Heartland recognizes the harmful effects of cigarette smoke. Research published by Heartland indicates that harmful effects of second-hand smoke is minimal, and doesn't justify the heavy-handed regulation by federal and local governments to ban smoking in such venues as bars, casinos and other private places.

Dan Miller
Publisher
The Heartland Institute
