Great to hear that it is going more smoothly.

Your wish for a "full local history" is unfortunately not something MarsEdit is particularly suited for. Every time you "Refresh" in MarsEdit, it will try to mirror your blog's "N latest posts", based on the setting in your weblog configuration settings in MarsEdit. So, you could set it to something huge to download them all, but you would want to set it back to something small to avoid insane performance problems, and then it would flip back to just the most recent posts.

I'm considering "archival" type features for a future update.

Cool idea about the pre-post analysis. I am planning to add link-completion at least, for a first step. But I like the idea of the app smartly suggesting things like links as you type them, or offering to always link after you link a few times the same word to the same URL.

I'll also think about the smart quoting idea. Another idea would be to have something like Smarty Pants automatically run on the content before uploading to the blog (if the user had checked a "smart quotes" option).

Daniel

Re: Just one blogging app at the iPhone app store isn’t enough

The WordPress app is supposedly very close to being available.

As for the rest, you have to remember that designing and developing an application takes time, and then Apple has to accept it and approve it. I'm sure we'll see lots of choices as time goes on. I'm certainly working on MarsEdit!

Daniel

Re: Free Floating Animosity » MarsEdit Hates Textpattern

Coincidentally, the XMLRPC developer for Textpattern just added some more changes to help with time zones/etc. See the comment here:

http://www.red-sweater.com/...

Re: Free Floating Animosity » MarsEdit Hates Textpattern

Yep it's me, the developer. Glad you appreciate the comment.

Thanks for the details about what is going wrong. The problem you describe with dates is relatively common with a variety of blog systems. The problem usually comes from a blog system being committed to interpreting dates as "the time zone of the blog" or else ignoring the fact that the time sent by MarsEdit is qualified as a GMT time. I wonder if you can make some sense of the disparity between your location, the blog's location and GMT. Judging from the fact you say it's an 8 hour difference, it makes me think maybe you or your blog is on the west coast of the US and, maybe the blog is interpreting the GMT qualified date as a local time.

I'm not sure either what would cause the markup to break. You witness exactly what MarsEdit sends and receives to the blog, via the Window -> Network Log. It can be helpful for clarifying whether MarsEdit is messing something up or whether the server is.

I'll put it on my todo list to look into dates/times, and into text filter support on Textpattern.

As for the options panel not containing everything you might expect, I can definitely see that. I expect that I'll end up adding the date in particular to the fields at the top of the post editor window (with title, slug, etc).

Re: Free Floating Animosity » MarsEdit Hates Textpattern

Just one guy ... but enough hate to go around ;) The last I checked on Textpattern, one of the developers had made a lot of progress updating Textpattern's XMLRPC support, and that seemed to dramatically improve support for MarsEdit.

If you're still having trouble with MarsEdit, I would really appreciate hearing about exactly what's going wrong. Maybe there are still some issues to iron out.

Daniel
