However, when everyone else is doing the same amount of research, polish, and rehearsal, another technique I use to stand out is to bring a portfolio of your work. This works outside of the creative and fashion industry as well. If you're a data analyst, bring a print out (jazz it up and print it on nice paper) of your latest charts. Behind that work experience listed on your resume are actual work products you've made. Find a way to take an action shot, screen capture the work, etc. and make it into something tangible you can bring ot the interview.

Re: On Being an Extroverted Introvert

I'm a extroverted introvert. I prefer to have social interactions on the small scale, no more than two or three people at a time. If it's a good conversation, I can go on forever. If it's a fake networking event, that can be extremely draining.

I'm not sure if the extroversion is "masking" your introversion. Instead, if you're feeling confident in a subject or activity, you'll do well. I just need to crawl back in a cave to recharge.

Re: Furry Duty

My goal is to connect with someone one day just for the sole reason of being mutual cat lovers. Life goes on and I don't feel like I miss out on anything. My conversations with friends are more lively when I don't know every single bit of detail going on in their life. In a few weeks, I'll be back on Facebook, but I think more at fixed intervals. I'm thinking I'll check in once a week to catch up and then shut down again.

I also find that deleting my iPhone Facebook app is a blessing. There's no more constant notifications.

Re: Frequency, Hesitation, and Inevitable Death

Love it. There wasn't enough changes. However, I think Steve is right when he's getting out of the spec wars. It's about user experience and in my opinion, Apple is second to none. Sure, there's no true multitasking, no hardcore tweaks and hacks, but it simply works. Even as a tech geek myself, I really enjoy spending more time reading blogs and sending emails than trouble shooting installs.

Re: Seattle Confusion: Do I love or hate this city?

It's true, my circle of friends don't invite new people in.We've been the same group since college days. First off, I'm not an expert.

I took the seasonally adjusted data and plotted Seattle for all the available data. If we look at the steady increase around 1990 to 1997 and assume that was steady growth and extrapolated that to the future, it creates a resistance line. Then I plotted a line charting the recent declines from the peak to present day and extrapolated that. Assuming no artificial intervention, those lines intersected a little above the 100 point, taking us back to prices around 2000.

Since unemployment isn't improving, our national debt increase, the prospect of increasing taxes, and the eventual increase in interest rates, it seems feasible to see 2000 prices again, basically resetting the system.

Re: The Personal MBA: Interview & Book Giveaway

MBA programs are great for networking and meeting people in your program. It takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice, but in the end, the reward is being free from the system.
