Thanks for the plugin David! One question — after the user has signed up on my event page, is it possible to hide the sign-up form? I get multiple sign-ups because users see the form again and think their sign-up didn't work. For example, see in the attached image what happens after I sign-up.

You also have to define "problem". Yes there are a lot of weed/psilocybin/MDMA tourists in Amsterdam. Is it a problem? I don't think so. Amsterdam is one of the safest cities I've ever lived in. Probably in no small part to the attitude towards drugs.

The drug education I received as a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s in the US (DARE) was full-on fear mongering with extremely little actual educational content.

I was not informed about relative risks and benefits of narcotics. I was pressured into accepting that all illegal drugs will instantaneously and magically turn my life to shit.

Not true and not helpful.

I'm an American that lives in Amsterdam. What "cracking down" are you referring to? I can buy weed from one of about 7 coffeeshops within a 10 minute walk from my apartment at a safe, comfortable storefront anytime from about 8am to 1am.

I think you misunderstood the point of my link. Despite your anecdotal experience, the Pew Forum recognizes JWs as a religion with some of the poorest members. There is certainly a correlation with the anti-education stance the Governing Body has repeatedly taken.

What the hell are you even trying to argue? It's not even controversial to say that Jehovah's Witnesses are not taught to value lucrative careers. They are taught to be unambitious about money (not necessarily a bad thing), and devote as much time as humanly possible to JW activities (a highly controlling and bad thing, to my mind). The more they push that, the less money their members make, the less they'll be able to contribute.

So they direct their members to spend what time they have – some of which they can convert to dollars.

OK, let's talk about the gigantic wealth transfer that happened a year or so ago, when all remaining Kingdom Hall titles and 'excess' congregation funds were transferred directly to the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society?

The JWs have already demonized higher education, so they're not going to bring in the cash through direct monetary donations. What JWs do have is construction talent, though. And they are working the free labor/construction talent angle to build buildings for pennies on the dollar that the organization can then own and sell for a profit down the line.

I don't think money is the *primary* motivator for the Governing Body – I think they're simply deluded and actually believe their own claims to being selected by God. Which, to my mind, makes them even more dangerous.

That's one of those weird rules they say doesn't apply because it's the Mosaic law (even though everyone in the congregation will judge you if you get a tattoo), so it's not a "disfellowshipping offense". Ironic since the two witness rule that protects pedophiles in the JW organization is also based on the Mosaic law. They haven't found it in their hearts to apply the same logic.

The roman numerals are '1984'. And the small numbers beneath them are '2+2≠5'. 1984 is a reference to the Orwell book. It will be a lifelong reminder to me to never fall into this kind of high control group again.

This is pretty funny, but there was a recent doctrinal changes about 'the rapture'. The JW Governing Body now teach that remaining ones of the 144,000 selected as Kings/Priests who are still alive at the onset of the Great Tribulation (which immediately precedes Armageddon) will basically be raptured to heaven in an instant so they can join in on the bloodshed of Armageddon as a spirit creature. Can't make this shit up.
