Thanks again Rasmus,much appreciated. I will try the newest model if they are available in Bangkok stores in a couple of weeks. It seems like one of the most useful app for me - Philips Cloud TV - is gone no matter the version of Android that the TV runs. Too bad because I am stuck with a single French speaking channel here.

Too bad I could not find any review for the 8509, especially if it is a one year model. I will use that information to push the price down because they are selling these TVs as 2015 models.

Hello, thanks for this great article, very informative.

I just wanted to ask if you got a chance to plug a hard drive on the USB port of one of these Android-enabled TVs (for instance if you have alibrary of MP4 files on a hard drive)?

I tried on one of the latest Sony TV and the hard drive would not even appear on the Input list. The seller had to navigate its way through several menus and even then, all if he could show me was an aggregated list of my files (no navigation through the tree structure of my hard drive, which I can do in seconds on my 3-years old LG LCD TV). For me that was an obsolute deal breaker.

I live in Bangkok and yesterday I got the opportunity to plug my hard drive on a 8500 series: the Philips PHL-50PUT8509S/98 UHD 3D SMART TV (with 3 sides Ambilight - http://www.philips.com.sg/c.... The system was a bit slow navigating the hard drive and opening pictures but at least it allowed me to browse my files in a logical manner. Most importantly, the picture quality - no matter the source - was absolutely amazing compared to all the other TVs I checked over the past week (mostly 48 to 50 inches TVs from LG, Samsung and Sony TVs with a price range up to 1,000 USD). It also offers 3D (active unfortunately, even though I prefer passive) which is nice considering that very few manufacturers released 3D enabled TVs this year for the size and price range I was considering. I could not find any review of the 8500 series so I assume it is fairly new.

Bonjour, c'est vraiment très sympa d'avoir rédigé et mis à disposition ce petit tutoriel, merci beaucoup.

En plus de l'accès à l'ordinateur hôte, il est aussi possible de laisser les ordinateurs du réseau virtuel accéder à Internet en activant le partage de connexion Internet dans les propriétés avancées de la carte réseau "physique" de l'ordinateur hôte : cependant cela semble avoir pour effet de changer l'adresse IP de la carte sur laquelle le partage de connexion Internet est activée, carte qui se retrouve avec l'adresse 192.168.0.1 ce bien souvent aura pour effet de faire perdre à l'hôte l'accès à Internet qu'on s'efforçait justement de partager avec les machines virtuelles :( Il faut encore que je creuse la question car cela doit pourtant être faisable sans modification de l'IP de la carte réseau "physique de l'hôte".
