Lot of brands, have still not been able to nail whether google+ posts automatically appear in search results? Previously the posts were prominently displayed on the right side of search results. However, the display of posts is very subjective now and sometimes they don't appear at all.

The other thing several brands usually ask is how to grow their followers? on Google+ This usually becomes a burning need when they see their competition which is doing much better.

Re: How to Partner With Influencers for Social Media Giveaways

Great post Jim! I think you've nailed most of them correctly. Perhaps, I would add that most brands and agencies should aim to build sustainable long-term relationships with bloggers and not just look at these as one-off situational engagement.

Re: Duminy's flight of Worries! | skyscanner.co.in

The only thing that JP should carry is shades and an umbrella coz it's really hot in Delhi.

Re: 14 pieces of 'feedback' clients should never say

As someone who runs an interactive digital agency, we certainly can relate with big time :) Design is very subjective, usually everybody feels like having some say on what looks good.

Re: Going coconuts – adventures of startup in Raglan

@Latesha - Why not, it's a beautiful country indeed :)

Re: Going coconuts – adventures of startup in Raglan

Loved the product Latesha! Although from a critics' perspective, it would be great if you could highlight or talk about a comparison of customer sentiments taking a fixed number of sample comments as a snapshot.

Also it would be good to know the split of customers v/s contest participants through a sample set. I know none of the supporting tools would talk about it, so it would be more of a manual analysis on a sample set.

Re: An awkward confession

Clean, honest stuff Karthik. Beyond the specific cases of Mast Kalandar and Hippo/Aliva, I have a general comment:

You ask, if brands can repeat these actions for all customers? Certainly they cannot make these sweet gestures to each and every customer. They have a selection criterion which is what is a bit of concern. Do you think something like this would have happened if the tweeter had 20 odd followers? Do you think a brand would have been influenced by his tweet then?

On the contrary, what potentially worries a brand is the network impact of a tweet when made by someone with over 1000 odd followers. This is where brands start thinking!

Re: 7 Ideas for Advanced Social Media Education

Hi Mark,

You've touched upon an interesting thought with your post. While I agree with all the comments over here including Billy's idea of expressing emotion, I think it would be good to have a course on "Conceptualizing Ideas for Social Media Campaigns".

I feel that day-in and day-out we hear about different success stories from various verticals in Social Media. The issue is that with so much happening in the industry, we are not sure to take the ideal route of planning a new campaign and thinking about exciting ideas. A basic course which develops a sort of framework for executing viral campaigns would be helpful.

Nice post once again!
Daksh

Re: HOW TO: Optimize Your Company’s LinkedIn Profile

Excellent tutorial/write-up Adam. Just like you cannot kill piracy, you cannot talk away 'spam' from the social media domain. There will be a group which will constantly indulge in this. This is why in social-forums you have moderators who keep an eye on link-baits etc.

Adding to your original tally:

1. PPC - Bidding for keywords which belongs to brand-name. When caught this can be very embarrassing :)
2. SEO - Mis-leading meta-tags, keywords to rank high in search-engine results (Done by small SEO agencies who promise to get you on Google rank 1 for Rs. 5k)

The question about what is deemed unethical and what is ethical has been raised a numerous times.

1. As an instance if you have got coverage in media, and you are tweeting its link multiple times day just to promote yourself, what would you classify that as?

2. How about recording the information of your site visitors through advanced analytic tools. Without their information, you are capturing key details about them. Isn't that unethical?

3. On several occasions, PR professionals are bullied. Why?

Personally, if you ask me you if you're doing some serious business and have to sustain yourself, marketing would happen. It is just that when you cross that borderline and do things out of exaggeration, that is where the community starts questioning you.

Daksh
