It would be useful to recall the Burke/Kirk conservatism which was very chary of materialism. Reagan's reference to 'disciplined lives...[under] God' was veiled, but extremely important.

IOW, "traditional conservatives" including Kirk, deTocqueville, Madison, and Eliot, did not worship at the altar of material goods. In fact, they argued that materialism combined with pure democracy, would result in the downfall of ANY country.

I'm acquainted with the MEP programs in Wisconsin. They are very solid, ethical, and honest; and they are fully capable of paying their own way to beneficial conferences, which is what happened here.

How do they get that money? BY EARNING IT. Small manufacturing businesses PAY the MEP and their providers for the knowledge and services provided.

Given the Congress-critter's geographical location, I'm sure she's willing to 'splain Fed generosity to sugar- and orange-juice folks, right?

The anti-Catholic stuff, however, is a two-edged sword; the Southern Baptists, Greek Orthodox, and conservative non-demonimationals are aware that it's not really "Catholicism." It's "Christianity" as a whole.

....you then elide the distinction between 'civil unions' and 'gay marriage' later in your piece. This is a serious error.

In the only "polls" which actually count--voting--37 States have forbidden gay "marriage." At least one of those States (and likely far more) ALSO allow 'civil unions.'

There is no "conservative" majority which is pro-gay-marriage. Period.

By the way, if you read Coulter's entire email, you find that Farah does not have the money to pay her for her gig--which may have a lot more to do with Farah's 'firing' her than any "issue" difference.
