Nice to see Nokia is back on the smartphone stage, but sad to see that they still have their 'attitude problem' of saving a few cent (here: no front facing cam) on the wrong place, and for a stupid reason. I'm quite sure that video chat features will soon be available on WP7, maybe in the next release, but a Lumia customer won't be able to use them, and definitely won't buy a new phone. Bad move from my point of view as a customer.

Well, I can't confirm that it uses "minimal" battery power.
Using PocketLock cut down the standby time of my N97 to (almost less than) one day. Uninstalling it brought me back to the usual 2 - 3 days, which leads me to the assumption that PocketLock sucks power like hell.

Power consumption is no problem, but it does not work in landscape mode on my N97. Had to turn off auto rotation.

Thank's for the review, I've been waiting quite some time for Otterbox to make a case for the N97.

Some questions:
- does the screen protector replace other screen protectors like the Brando? If not, can it be used in combination with an existing screen protector?

- I'm looking for a case that I can use when working on the car or doing some home improvement. It should protect the N97 from greasy fingers and dust. Would you recommend the Otterbox for this? If not, do you have a hint for a rugged case?

That didn't work.
When I replace the whole "mode = 1;
cacheEntriesHtml = '';
document.getElementById('body').style.backgroundImage = "";
showFullscreen();" part with "launchCalendar();" the calendar doesn't close on Exit. The ComingNext overview screen pops up for a second and I'm back in the calendar, again and again.

ComingNext ist THE calendar widget for the N97. That's how a widget should be, not the default Nokia crap. I prefer the version 1.22 because it opens the calendar when you click it on the home screen, the versions 1.23 and 1.24 first open an overview screen and you need 2 more clicks to open the calendar. Not a useful update to me.

Re "notification sound played over FM transmitter": I don't think that this issue is Profimail related. I use my N97 with my car stereo over bluetooth and also have this "issue" when I get a text message or an email (Nokia Messaging). The music fades out, the notification file is played, music fades in and continues. Seems to be a player/ symbian thing that all sound files are transmitted.

Nice summary, though points 3 and 5 are - from my point of view - only important if you travel a lot.

I'm also a fan of JBak Taskman, but I now use Handy Taskman simply because it's much more touch friendly than JBak.

One of _my_ most vital system apps is BT switch. I mainly use BT headsets, use BT to sync/ copy files with my laptop and stream music via BT to my car stereo. Put it on the home screen of my N97, saves a lot of time turning BT on/off with one click.

20.0.027 is just a localized version of 20.0.019 for the Middle East and North Africa that supports english, arab and farsi. No new/ other features.
Just like the 20.2.019 for NAM devices.

I'm using my N97 with a SE DS970 headset and have no problems. Everything works like a charm except the display of the mp3 tag info on the DS970's LCD. But that's a thing that never works when using devices from different manufacturers.

Doesn't it also come with a lifetime Nokia Messaging licence (well, device lifetime, which means two years)? At least it is advertised with this licence in Europe.

The notification icons on the E71 were also on the bottom of the screen..

Another negative change:

no more predicitve search (is that the correct name?) in the player. With v12 it was possible to search for a string and the N97 showed any entry that CONTAINED this string. Now it only shows the entries that BEGIN with the string. This also works eg. in the albums list only for the album title, not for the artist.

Just change the priorities in your internet destination. Go to settings - connectivity - destinations - Internet. Open the destination Internet, click options - organise - change priority. Now you can drag and drop the access points.

and exactly that's the reason why - especially after an update - you only should restore contacts, calendar, messages and bookmarks. When you also restore user files etc you restore all the crap that once wasted your C: space and slowed your phone down.

Restore your "personal" data and reinstall apllications, that's the way to go.

Well, I love it. One feature hasn't been mentioned anywhere: The pencil key is here! No Blaxx, not on my keyboard :-) , but copy/ paste function on long shift press.

can't confirm this. I have more than 10MB more space available on C: with the same setup I had before the update, mainly because maps is already integrated in the firmware.

This firmware is NOT hackable at the moment. A hacked phone stays hacked after the update, but you can't hack your phone again after a hard reset!

Problem solved, seemed to be some problem with the SIM - N97 combination (though it used to work with the same SIM in my E71) . Used my wife's SIM to get the sms and everything is fine now.
