I plan with two other friends to take the most visible parts of NYC so that the world can see people are trying to restore order. Times Square, MSG, UN, Yankee Stadium, the bridges, and Central Park. I'm playing the galaxy..no the known universe's smallest violin for her. It would seem that teachers are turning into hoes at an alarming rate or maybe we are just hearing more about it. My HS had a rumor that a student was having sex with a teacher when I was there. He even bragged about it, of course few people believed him but she did transfer not long after I graduated.

As a nearby resident, the buildings are an eyesore for sure, but I don't want development like this. The unseemly "deals" being struck between the "community organizations" and the developer are also why residents have little to no faith in most community organizations. It's all a money grab.
I'm not fan of the overly renter friendly laws in DC, but they exist for a reason.

As a lower CH resident (off Southern at Shipley Terrace), I'm torn by the improvements. My neighborhoods need a makeover, but it will lose the "soul" the closeness of the neighborhood when it happens.
As for gentrification, a switch from higher socio-economic status black residents has never resulted in an across the board rise in tax rate or property values. Black people cannot gentrify. We generally do not have access to the funds to make those indicators go up, which usually occurs from putting newer retail in the area. Gentrification is a macro-level event and a swap in socio-econ status blacks is not.

There's too much at stake (oil, industrialized economies' lifeblood) to not do something. The problem is what something is adequate? Re-occupation isn't realistic. Balkanization isn't either because it can destabilize Turkey and Jordan, at least. So we side with whomever is most capable of maintaining the current status quo as a stopgap measure.

I had this thought when the election started. Win or lose, the Republicans are looking at a schism. Conservatives/TPers vs the shrinking moderates. McCain and Romney losing is only more ammo for the Right Wing to state that no more moderates need to be presidential candidates. If that takes hold, then it could be a generation before the GOP ascends to the White House. Remember the last stretch with a Democratic White House? We got Civil Rights Act, War on Poverty, etc.

I'm not calling the death knell of the GOP but if they don't get a handle on who holds the power in the party, they could fall into just being a regional party.

I guess I'm wondering what effect a foreign policy debate will have the election. Poll after poll shows that Americans have telescoped their interests to the domestic sphere, particularly the economy. No one cares about the red Chinese menace when they have to work two terrible jobs just to make ends meet.

One of two things happened. 1. This got lost in translation from his head to his mouth. What he meant to say isn't what came out. I see the content but it gets lost in the communication. 2. I'm not sure the Senate can correct itself. It's job was to calm the passions of the House but now it's just as bad.
Another term might show us what the President has been waiting to do without the albatross of reelection hanging over his head. What can we realistically expect with this level of hyperpartisanship in our government and political discourse

Higher education was expected from both parents (one with a degree and one who didn't finish school). I think I would be a far different person if I hadn't attended PWI's to get my undergrad and grad degrees.

I didn't have to fight through the process because my two older siblings were able to guide me on what to do. For grad school, I did all the heavy lifting myself.

By grad school, I had gotten used to being the only black face in the room, but there was one other black woman in some of my classes. I still felt I was one of the smarter people in every class I walked into, grad school didn't change that idea.

I realize that I haven't reached back in a significant manner to the youngsters behind me. I'm trying to get a new job so I can free up my Saturdays so I can do things.

I'm more concerned with the other side of that "obey" part, the leading. Heavy is the crown and all that. Being the "leader" is an enormous responsibility. It's not a dictatorship more an oligarchy power is collected in a few hands (two).

What concerns me with marriage is will I be an effective leader?

The problem is choice. (s/o to the Architect) Choice carries an opportunity cost, learn to deal with it. I could ramble on and on about hypotheticals but he made a conscious choice and there's a cost to it. Hopefully he can deal.
