Early in my wedding photography days I simply took pictures as events happened - photojournalist style. This was fine, but I was not fully aware of how important the details and location context was to the bride. Our photography studio now captures the full spectrum of details, emotions, events and context in a way that is more aligned to telling the story in an album.

Thanks for the insight. I want to see Grace's Black tie event! PLEASE!!!!

We are developing "mini" wedding packages for brides and grooms. These are fill in bookings between our regular weddings. These packages are scaled back in terms of time and product, but still the same quality. We are basing the prices on ROI vs time NOT shooting. Ironically, we found that we are still earning the same amount per hour as larger packages. So, in effect we are not lowering our prices, and at the same time generating more revenue. My wife (who is an accountant by trade) and I have been looking at the business model to tweak it and understand profitability through different options. The main factor - how much PROFIT per hour is generated - not just the top line revenue stream. Small weddings take up less time the day of shooting, less post processing time, less follow up, less design time for an album, etc. Just like McDonalds - selling smaller meals that are more profitable to the majority of people, rather than huge banquets for the minority of people. There are times and needs for both.
Thanks for the surfacing the concept. It has been encouraging.
Curtis

Re: 14 Essential iPhone Apps for Small Business Users

We use the iDisk feature on Mobile Me quite frequently. It is been far too long a time for Microsoft to be challenged. This is going to be helpful in the consumer market because there will finally be competition in this segment of software applications. Perhaps others will also be targeted, I.E. Photoshop and Quicken. In the end, the consumer will win with more choices and better products.

Curtis

Wedding Photography Miami

Re: Google Kansas II: Duluth Strikes Back [VIDEO]

I used to live in Net Zero, Kansas - (Wichita).

Re: 5 Essential Sites for Professional Photographers

This is a good list of photographic business websites, but there are many more about the art and technical aspects of the photography industry. Photography has a wide range of specialties. wedding, portrait, architecture, food, fashion, product, nature, and more. Each field has unique challenges, styles and demands different skills sets. And, there are the many facets of running a small business, payroll, legalities, copyright issues, marketing and advertising, networking, taxes, etc.

I would also recommend:
http://strobist.blogspot.com
http://digitalprotalk.blogs...
http://digital-photography-...
http://lightroomkillertips.com
http://www.photocrati.com
http://photography.alltop.com

Thanks for this list, and thanks for the others who have made some good recommendations of other photographic websites to check out.

Have a great day!
Curtis

Wedding Photography

Re: Google: Desktops Will Be Irrelevant in Three Years’ Time

Our desktop is mainly used for graphics applications and professional photography needs.
