And as a matter of fact, right after that post, I tried one more time and it was a success. Give it some time to mature, I'll make another post soon =]

Re: Demo Time!

@wesker: no telling how long that's been there, probably since the first few days of development. I would say I was just scoping out the competition... I haven't used anything from your package, just in case you were wondering.

@iPod touch: With the way I started out writing AppManager, it was very difficult to add custom repos. I will be adding support for them post redTool 2.0.

Re: Demo Time!

@Adrian, you only have to reboot the first time your device is being setup, or if your configuration has been somehow broken/corrupted. Otherwise, it only takes one reboot to install any number of packages :)

And as for the website, I don't have a ton of control over the iPod part, it's a third party wordpress plugin.

@CurveBall: redTool 1.02 should work on Vista just fine, I tested it as well as many others. redTool 2.0 will be no different.

@vannann: I'm going to go as hard as I can on it, that's for sure.

Re: Apps? Consider them managed

I haven't worked on the backup thing. Chances are that it won't come in the onset of 2.0, but rather something like 2.1 or 2.2, depending on how many bug fixes I have to make. It isn't like I'm being lazy, but I found a serious flaw in my previous plan... I will have to investigate apt-backup some more and if I can't get that to work... I have some other ideas as well.

Re: But it’s been two weeks!?

No news on the Mac version. That isn't necessarily my project, and I obviously can't run anything .NET on a Mac. I may be able to use the C++ version to make a carbon based application, but I'm not too sure on that. Right now creating a Mac version on my own is beyond the scope of my plans. Talk to Gojohnnyboi about his progress, I haven't talked to him in a few days but it seems like he hasn't been working on the app but rather other projects.

Re: But it’s been two weeks!?

This is the current game plan. I'm going to release redTool 2.0 for the iPod touch 2G. After that is running and is smooth, I'll work next on iPhone and iPod touch 1G support. This will be easy in some ways and difficult in other ways, I should be able to add support for the other devices within a week's time, hopefully.

I'm excited to be bringing support but I need to finish 2.0 support for my current install base first :D

Re: Announcing redTool 2.0

Currently, it is written simply in visual studio 2008. We are hoping to have released it within two weeks, but we aren't completely sure we'll make that deadline. I wouldn't think so though. Probably a system configuration issue. Does iTunes recognize the iPod? Have you tried a different USB port?

Re: Jailbreaking 3.0 on the 2G

Look around, there is a modified version of the standard quickpwn that is designed to jailbreak the iPhone, iPod touch 1G, and the iPhone 3G. Restore to that firmware from recovery mode and you'll be fine. To do that, use the menu item to boot the iPod into recovery mode, then restore to the NOR-Only firmware. I'll be fixing this in 1.03.

Re: Two Birds. You may also want to run your updater to get a small silent update I just posted for a stability fix in the injecter.

As for the 200kb thing, that's why I added a live preview function :)

Re: Two Birds. Try some other, pre-made logos that others have had success with and see if they work. I believe the image has to have an alpha layer and/or 1 pixel of transparency somewhere in the graphic. It's best to stay below 200kb in file size and it must be under 320x480 in dimension.

Hope that helps :)

Re: Jailbreaking 3.0 on the 2G

I forgot about that. It's also cool that we did this =P

There are other things that can benefit from several components of this jailbreak as well.
