The reason I care about your year-end list is because inevitably it will lead me to some corner of the musical world I would have never investigated otherwise. You'll say something thoughtful that will make me consider something in a new way, and I'll find something to listen to that I likely wouldn't have otherwise.

Lists help people find good things. That they aren't all-encompassing, or betray a certain vanity on the part of the writer, is more than made up for by the fact that they point us toward the unfamiliar with confidence.

Although Rdio has a native application now -- or at least, a Flash application that (mostly) acts like a native one. I have to say, I'm pretty into Rdio -- if only all my friends were on it, it would be more or less perfect.

Totally agree. "Talk about" is a perfectly adequate ice breaker, and useful in that it discourages the two-or-three word, yes-or-no answers that sports athletes and other interview subjects are famous for.

D'oh. Fixed. For what it's worth I did Google around a little bit to determine which woodwind I was looking at, and the Interwebs indicated that the Low Anthem sometimes includes a bassoon. Obviously should have just checked with you!

Like you, I also felt some lingering loyalty. But there are alternatives out there -- which I'm now using, and really enjoying. I'll write about those soon.
