Thank you for this series. I love Octavia Butler and was heartbroken when she passed. Granted, I didn't know her personally so it was entirely selfish because I wouldn't be able to read anything new from her anymore. (formerly Barb in Atl, but since I finally went ahead and registered at Discus, it was already taken).

Look for J. California Cooper. She's not science fiction, but I love her stuff. Just really a nice, laid back read with some nice stories - although, some of them are tough life lesson stories. But generally uplifting. She's done both short stories & full lenghth novels. The novels can be painful. Like watching Rosewood.

Couple things - WSY tweet or RT that the bill failed before because is was being funded by ending a special tax loophole exploited by foreign corporations doing business in the United States: http://www.pensitoreview.co.... So now they found a new way to fund it? What's wrong with the original way? And can we finally accept that McWeasel is an arsewipe and never let him near a microphone again?

I wish people would be honest - congress driven legislation is necessary because President Obama is not the boss of them. The more he pushes, the more they'll push back and nothing gets done. So, let's say he starts off next year saying, "Okay, I want to do this, this, this and this." Guaran damn teed he's going to get idiots like weiner whining and the blue dogs running the other way. I wish folks would just STFU and let him do his thing. He's not perfect, but he's doing a heck of a lot with all the pressure he's got coming from all sides. (Typing after a big screwdriver is HARD - i guess I shoulda' waited for Alex's lounge Friday. Nah, too long.)

The Zadroga bill was originally funded by ending a special tax loophole exploited by foreign corporations that do business in the U.S. But because the party’s puppeteer, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, insisted that ending the tax loophole would “damage U.S. relationships with major trading partners,” Republicans quickly and quietly lined up against the bill. In a last ditch effort to secure their support, Sen. Kristin Gillibrand (D-NY) replaced that funding measure with a new offset that places “a 2 percent fee on procurement contracts for certain countries, combined with a visa fee.” Now, it seems Republicans are magically on board and, according to Gillibrand (D-NY), willing to pass the bill by Christmas.

I was going to post that it was the "yaller Ron..." but then I couldn't remember his name. So I googled (honest to goodness) Black Republican Ron with cross eyes and got an article about Ron Christie with the lazy eye. If Lenny McAllister doesn't recognize the importance of the legislation that Speaker Pelosi brought up for votes and got passed in the house, well, that's his shortsightedness. I'm very pleased with her work (except for the no tax vote, but I understand her caucus just wouldn't pick a friggin' side).
