Anti-incumbency trend for Lilligren or Colvin Roy? Sure, kind of. But Hofstede lost the general election for the same reasons she lost the endorsement: she never returned phone calls, seldom did constituent outreach, churned through an astounding number of aides and didn't work with other council members, several of whom were quick to endorse Frey. Those were the important elements of that race, not a part of a general anti-incumbency trend or related to a 'positive campaign' trend, which both Hofstede and this report left out for different narratives.

Much like it's often argued the 60's ended before Dec. 31st, 1969, I think that most of Loudwire's albums are pre-90's. For that reason Great Southern Trendkill should be the 90s album that makes the list, not Vulgar.

One of the things that I was also trying to get across was that newspapers used to be the starting point in the information chain. That's simply not the case anymore, particularly because of inefficiency, but also because their end product isn't as valuable as it once was.

What would be really interesting to track would be to take two to five local stories, and see where the majority of the information originated. I'd be willing to bet that the stories wouldn't begin with newspapers.

Well, I think 'the gap' isn't as big as people think it is. Should people get more news, especially in depth? Of course. We of course need journalists who can take a month on a bigger piece.

But I don't think there are so many stories like that they'd go uncovered if institutions like papers tip over, especially considering the ratios of reporters that are employed from daily papers to, say, Talking Points Memo (who's covered the recount as effectively as any local outlet) or the New Yorker.

Do we need steady local reporting? Absolutely, but we don't to have media outlets with 50% ads, 20% AP stories, 20% fluff, and one or two in depth stories that get circulated through the traditional media.
