Thanks for the wise words. Community is vital for Rita and I as well. We want a place we can develop some great relationships and plug in where needed. Small groups definitely are the place for great discussion too, which we really want. I guess I just don't want to enjoy a great small group at the expense of having to sit through the fluffy service every week. As far as the electric guitar idea, the last thing I believe is that every electric guitar player at a church is just trying to be cool. I have played electric guitar on church stages many times (and admittedly I was probably hoping I looked cool, but that's beside the point). The point is that electric guitar players are not the problem—the problem is that I have so much trouble enjoying it because of so many different past church experiences. I went to DCF a pretty good amount in college with Adam and really loved it. It was a super authentic community that is very similar to what we are looking for.

If people enjoy a service that happens to have someone rocking out an electric, that's great and I am glad there's a place that fits their need. But I am in a place now where I am more of an organ and choir kind of guy. That's what gets me in the zone, if you will.

Re: On the Dumbing-Down of Spirituality (or the Search for Substance)

Thanks Megan, I really appreciate it. I would guess that any solution would take more than a 3 minute youtube video to explain. Also, I would hope that more money wouldn't just mean throwing gadgets at teachers or dropping food to areas of severe world hunger. It would mean having the funds to try to improve these problems at the roots. Adding money won't fix everything, but cutting more money will definitely hurt, which is happening for some of these categories.

Re: Stand-Ins

Justin, good catch. We all laughed about that painting because it did look like it was giving Mary Norton a mean look. We decided to reverse it and it looked a lot better.

Re: http://bethbrownables.tumblr.com/post/638795028

man i love those. i want one right now.

Re: Kitchen in Kiawah

Hey Harrison, most of it is in the shooting process, lighting, and editing, not the quality of gear. If that's what you mean by technology. Or if you mean Photoshop, then that does play a relatively large role. Good idea for a future post.

Re: http://bethbrownables.tumblr.com/post/608720306

This is awesome.
