This makes sense to me, Stephen. I think that teaching starts with the human connection. If you don't have a connection of heart, then learning won't start. Period.

I do agree on the industry relationship issue. FTC guidelines are really clear on that point. It is particularly hard in Tweets to do and I wish that Twitter made it easier. To me this is common sense but sadly to many it is not..

Interesting thoughts, Rachel. I just updated with another post on my blog about how this looks in my classroom and how I use each tool. Mindmapping is an important part of brainstorming, planning, and getting your thoughts on paper. I also find that some interesting things happen when you have students map together.

Awesome, Jeremy. Hats off for your amazing work on AIC. I was just in Phoenix talking about what an amazing joy you all and Dr. Stanzler do with this! And yes, showing your work is important. My friend Kevin Honeycutt said the greatest quote the other day "Perfect is the enemy of done." I think many educators don't share because they want it to be perfect. Perfect is a lie.

This is a tough one.First and foremost- FOLLOW DISTRICT POLICY- I would never advocate otherwise.

I just explain to my students that online and offline are both real world and the student teacher relationship is a special one for many reasons.

If I had something being communicated to me I would likely give all the screenshots to a person on campus. But realize this-- this is RARE. It is a door they may use to tell me something they want me to know as their teacher and has happened once since I changed my policy.

It should be rare. We shouldn't really need or have a lot of communications unless a crisis has happened. A kid has a wreck, a death, a big problem.

If they are under 13 then you don't have this as an issue.

Finally- we need to advocate for social media companies to help us with this. We need an app or a tool to help with the unique needs- kids will be safer and teachers will be protected as will districts. Things need to change so when crisis happens someone from every school can help a child who needs it. Not everyone- someone.

For now we have to follow our policies and rules.

Wow Sarah! I have seen first grade teacher use it and younger to share artifacts and pics although obviously the kids aren't writing as much as drawing and creating. Blogs can be used in any classroom and remember that Edmodo and other sites can give you a protected space. I love being able to connect kids with parents too!

Well I followed Google's instructions at that time but looking at this - it is different from yours. It sounds like they have fixed this problem since I had my nightmare a few years back. Thank you for letting me know! This is great - I wish it had been there in October because back then even I'm pretty sure it was the old way.

I'm not sure about that one. It may be how you do it, but within moments my subdomain was taken. There is probably a new way to do this, but I would be very cautious. Do you have a step by step on how you did this? Did you set up a new one and do it with a redirect or did you go in and change the URL in settings?

I really love blogger as a beginner and it is a great tool. The issue is that you can outgrow it and then particularly the ownership they take over the content. That said - it is very hard to move!
