Absolutely, I faced most difficulty in Poland. Asking for a meal without the meat was nearly impossible to communicate and it ended up coming with meat anyway. The linguistic barrier didn't help, though!

It isn't as problematic in, say, France but you will still get evil looks and think you're somewhat crazy when you say the evil phrase 'je suis végétarien'.

I'll never get what people have against vegetarians. If you say you're vegetarian, you often receive evil looks! In certain parts of continental Europe, the concept is almost alien.

As for me, I've been vegetarian for about 5 years but before that I was on and off for 5 years.

Hmm, perhaps it isn't too professional to bitch about your readers!

You do, however, raise a valid point. As lovely as lovely grammar is and what-not, perhaps it is more important not to restrict creative thought processes. Providing a post makes fairly good sense and the writer isn't being lazy ('n I wen 2 teh suprmrkt), I fail to see a problem.
