"Synecdoche New York" and "Let the Right One In" were the most fearless films of 2008. I'm tired of films that lie about the human condition ... particularly when they smear on documentary veneer. I'm starting to believe fantasy is the most assured route to honesty. Even when it's wrong, at least it's entertaining.

And: "Let the Right One In" is for vampires what "The Dark Knight" was for superheroes.
