AOL's leadership deserves some credit for being ballsy enough to push themselves to be something quite different + I like that they're focused on the top of the chain-- there's no doubt that becoming a content and ad focused company is unchartered territory but being aggressive enough to go new directions show's strong leadership.

Not to mention while content monetization may not be at all time high, consumption IS, so that's in their favor.

Re: DST CEO Yuri Milner: Facebook Will Help Power Artificial Intelligence In Ten Years

What he's describing is not artificial intelligence at all. Machines can do a lot of things well, especially mechanical tasks. What they don't do as well with is more intelligent tasks like taste, aesthetics and interest (things the social web does well at organizing).

In the end, how many (engineering based) companies since the early 60's have professed a desire for ai? Too many to count-- how many have built anything succesful? None.

Re: DST CEO Yuri Milner: Facebook Will Help Power Artificial Intelligence In Ten Years

Oh ok. Yeah, we have much different views of what it means to be human in that case. I don't think human intelligence = the brain as a set of bits and bytes (like a computer is).

The mathematical paradigm that invented the computer, unfortunately is not the same logic that invented human intelligence. I don't think our intelligence can be reduced to an atomistic level like a computers can.

And in fairness, I think the burden of proof is on computers-- AI has been something of the search for Atlantis...

Re: DST CEO Yuri Milner: Facebook Will Help Power Artificial Intelligence In Ten Years

I'm not being dualist at all, no where did I say that I believe the mind is different than the body... I was actually making a comment on science as a paradigm of understanding-- and therefore the limits of that paradigm.

I've read neuroscience, but I've also read a lot of philosophy of science, which is what underpins a lot of neuroscience. I'd really recommend reading some philosophy of the mind-- it will help you understand science as a worldview-- not as the world itself.

Maybe start with Hubert Dreyfuss' what computers can't do ... It's a great way to step outside of science and and examine what's beneath our scientific assumptions.

All the best,

Re: Apple: Nothing Has Changed. Great take man. my $0.02:

The thing with simple messaging is it forces organizations to self identify.

And that takes balls.

For example: a non-profit may boil down it's message and find itself uncomfortable with what the message actually is ("yikes! are we really *this*?").

Or a startup may boil down it's messaging and be unimpressed with what they actually do ("Wow! Is that really all we're pitching? Is that even valuable?").

It takes confidence in what you do to be simple. Sometimes I wonder if ambiguous messaging is a way to conceal a lack of confidence in identity.

Re: Wix Review

Thanks for the comment Anthony, glad the review helped!

Re: GoDaddy Review

Sorry to hear they got you- but glad to hear you're moving past it- thanks for the comment Sheree!

Re: Wix Review

Glad it was helpful Shannon.
