It can be tough out there right now.

I gotta couple of questions for you:

What are you doing right now that works? Start there. Do more of that?

Who are your highest paying customers right now? How can you get more of them?

Hopefully this will put you on the right track. :)

Re: Dance Teacher Summer Conference ‘08

It was a really nice turnout. You heard right so I understand how it's a little confusing. The normal people who put that event on were going to take a year off. Then, Gil from Break the Floor Productions stepped in, rebranded it at Dance Teacher Summit, and really gave it wings. It was a super cool event. Look out for it next year.

Re: Headlines for Dance Studios and Teachers – Part 2

Dedra,

My advice is to live up to it. That's who you wer then and this is who are you are now. Turn it into -your- unique advantage and control the interpretation of it. I think that's better than people turning it into wild stories, rumors, and untrue things behind your back. Plus, you sleep better at night. Priceless.

Re: Headlines for Dance Studios and Teachers – Part 2

Noted

Re: Headlines for Dance Studios and Teachers – Part 2

I'm sorry the volume IS low but it is there. If you can turn it up on your computer a little bit you'll hear it. If I get a second I'll try to re-master the audio and re-upload it for you.

Re: What Should I Cover?

Word of mouth is and always has been the strongest form of marketing. Plus, it's free. Now, the internet is really connecting people if you do it right. Linda get's it.

A fundraiser is a nice way to get some PR if done right as well but I think going after people with word of mouth is more direct.

I made a service for dance studio owners and whatnot here. I think it's really that important:

http://www.RealDealDanceWeb...

Dominating online has really, really helped the studios I've worked with. EVERYONE is searching for stuff online.

The problem a lot of people have but don't know it, is that they think *having* a website is enough. Denise says having a site will change everything but it won't. I won't argue that it's not a great first step. And, it's essential. The problem is, everyone in their brother has a website.

So what?!

It's what your website DOES for you that matters.

Re: What Should I Cover?

Hmmm....

How about we make a trade. YOU tell me everything you know about 'dancing' and I'll tell you everything I know about 'marketing'? ;)

Re: What Should I Cover?

Crystal,

I'm so sorry to hear about that. :(

Unfortunately I've heard this story before with other studios too...

Right now, it's really about the studio with the best marketing that wins. Being a little behind with computers and the web is pretty tough to deal with because most people are online looking for stuff nowadays. Being there is pretty key in my opinion.

What you can do is play to your strengths and do a big word of mouth campaign. Facebook is great for networking so I'd start there. Play up the fact that you have a great teacher and she's only at your studio. Get people talking and networking for you.

Re: What Should I Cover?

Hard to say without know more about it but I wouldn't immediately rule out non-dancers for historical stuff. There are a lot of "fans" out there who don't really dance but would appreciate that.

Obviously, dancers are going to be a good target as well.

What types of dances does it cover? I would start with those types of dancers and fans. Internet makes it easy.

Re: Dance Teacher Summer Conference ‘08

Totally understand. I think they knew it wasn't that great so they decided to not do it again and take a year off to re-group. THEN, Gil Stromming stepped in and is taking over. It's a new thing called the 'Dance Teacher Summit' and it's going to blow the old conference away.

Check it out if you haven't already:

http://www.danceteachersumm...

He basically took everything that sucked about the old one and cut it out or improved it a bunch on the new one. I'm excited for it!
