Great feedback, Parsons! Well, I care. Many do. A lot. And while it's sad to read of Dr. Minto's ordeal and the closing of his practice, I admire his years of service to the terribly underserved women of the RGV. This is a galvanizing, well-written article. Mary Tuma's coverage of the politicization of women's health for the Current has been so useful to understanding how we got here, and what the stakes are. Kudos to the Current, and to Ms Tuma.

The good news is, several of the people I spoke to at the party were interested in San Antonio, once they heard more about it. Austinites can be dismissive of SATX, but we could do a better job engaging with and taking on Austin, too. It'd only help us – and them!

I read recently that SATX has gone from third to seventh fattest city. I don't know whether to happy for us, or sad for Corpus Christi, Dallas and El Paso.

Oy, "the obvious question." ASQF, I came across your blog after googling "Betancourt" and "Larry King" in a fit of gobsmacked rage after watching this very exchange. I too was deeply moved by Betancourt's compassionate self-possession and completely agog at King's puerile, ham-fisted treatment of her. Your post is spot-on, and thanks. Don't lose heart.
