I grew up in Haddonfield, and I have been working in professional theatre in Florida for thirty years. I must disagree with Bruce Curless. When the economy tanked in 2008, I thought we'd see a dip in live theatre in my region, South Florida. And we did lose a few venerable companies. But we now have more theatre companies than ever. And very few of them rely on government funding.
The fact is that the more art there is, the more art is desired.
That's not to say we shouldn't look long and hard at the plans for this project. It's only responsible to examine the impact of the location, the stability of economic support, and to ensure solid programming. But it's always a good time to start a new artistic venture.

The city commission really screwed the pooch with this stupid law. Feeding the homeless is not our problem in Fort Lauderdale. The problem is that we have so many homeless people in Fort Lauderdale. And of course, the biggest problem of all is that we have a bunch of idiots on the city commission passing idiotic laws like this one.

A private corporation that refuses to even discuss the actions of its police force proves that it should not be permitted to run a police force in the first place. In the USA, the police must protect and serve THE PUBLIC WELFARE, not corporate interests.

In cases where LEGITIMATE police start a new enforcement policy, they begin with a grace period, during which they issue warnings. That would serve the purpose that FEC claims it is trying to achieve. But since this was not done, it seems more likely that FEC simply hired a bunch of racist thugs that they've released on the public with no oversight whatsoever.

The woman was absolutely in the wrong. That said, there is at least one situation where a woman (and sometimes a man) may have a good reason not to want photos of their children floating around. In our camp program, we had a woman who fled an abusive relationship. She has legal custody of her children, and the abusive father is not allowed to know where they are because he tends to show up and try to take them, or beat her. If their photos end up on our Facebook feed, for example, it could help him locate them.

IF this is the case, the solution is to explain it to the photographer, not to attack them. I would hope that most of us aren't dicks.

When Mr. Obama said "Sue me," it wasn't because he disrespected the Constitution. It's because he recognizes what you can't: that he hasn't violated it nearly as badly as conservatives have, and certainly without the malicious glee displayed by the more conservative members of your party, Mr. Boehner. By all means, waste time suing the President for doing something your own party's Presidents did ten times as often. And when you lose your suit, as you will, you can explain to the voters why you wasted so many hard-earned tax dollars on such a fraudulent cause.
