This experience brought a memory to me 3 years ago when a well-known surgeon from Cebu City recommended me to have a surgery for L4-L5 slip disc on my back and I'm only in my late 30's, I NEVER complied to go under the knife instead I asked for alternatives. And the doctor (definitely not this surgeon, hehehe ) discuss the possibilities if I do alternative against a serious permanent condition if I don't go surgery. I didn't follow the doctor (Saves me 300K pesos). My condition happen naturally so why would somebody wants to open my spinal cord? NO WAY!

I follow the 3-month PT session and I 'm happy with my decision. I can now walk properly and can even play basketball. The result of my spinal injury is NOT related to physical activity BUT overweight, inactivity and always a couch potato, working on my computer all day/night. (I'm a web developer/internet marketer). Although surgery has some better option think twice for alternatives and if the condition exhausted other alternatives then sitting with a wheelchair for life aka like Stephen Hawkings is not bad - if you have high-speed technology around that stupid wheelchair, I will go with that route rather than killing someone and killing myself.

P.S. I remember I consulted 3 doctors that I showed them my MRI results and they all advise the same, go with the KNIFE. I say 'Go to heaven! I will not let you open my back. Can you REBOOT me, if it fails?
