I was really hoping that with Julie & Julia it will re-awaken some of that in people and they will learn that things are better homemade, but my hopes are not high...
As for the "foodie" part I guess I thought of myself as one, but more of a foodie in the same way you did. We never go to new restaurants and hardly ever watch food tv unless it is on PBS and as for cookbooks, I hate to say I have hundreds and have cooked from every one at some time. I too love to talk about food and cooking and even more so on French Cooking but I guess I am not a "foodie" any more. How about a Gourmand instead :) The term has become so generic now as well, if you watch Rachel Ray and have her cookbook, you are not a "foodie". Was that horrible to say :)

Re: Spinach Pecan Pesto Sauce

looks great and I can just taste those tomatoes. Love easy and homecooked meals like that!

Re: Buttonwoods Fish & Chips - For Breakfast?

such wonderful memories Michelle. I have some fantastic memories just like that of my grandpa. He died 15 years ago on August 15th and in his honor I had to buy a maple bar and sit at his favorite spot at the beach. It is these great memories that keep us going. Thank you for sharing it!
