Helped me a lot. One thing though, it's not recommended to add your python code to the Web server’s document root (/var/www/), as that opens up for others to be able to read it.

Re: Aarhus.

Re: Friday rant: shovelling PR shite

haha Dennis. It's insanity

Re: Apple Launches Subscriptions For Content-Publishers On The App Store

Come on think it through. What you are saying is that you think it would be ok if ebay took a 30% cut of all sales on ebay, because they are the newsstand. That is a VERY old world way of looking at business, and so is Apples way to do business.

The only reason they can do it, is because they sit on a monopoly - just like Microsoft did in its day

When it comes to in-app purchases then Apple is not the newsstand. Apple is the greedy landowner, that wants to charge 30% of all the value that you are able to get from being on that land.

Apple doesn't even pay for the roads, on the land, that makes it possible for customers to come to the land. They do build them, but we as iPhone, iPod and iPad users are paying for them.

Again, if it was not for the Apps, then I would not have bought my iPhone. Apple not getting that, will - i believe - make them loose the game, to the suppliers that DO understand the new model economy.

PS, we are not only talking about the publishing world here. We are talking about all forms of subscription.

Re: Apple Launches Subscriptions For Content-Publishers On The App Store

Hej Shon, I like your argument, and it has something to it.

But I would say that you make a terrible miss-comparison. The vendor of a newsstand takes there cut because of the work they do. They are paid to build a newsstand, attract customers to it, and then sell the product.

But apple doesn't build the iPhone app for the newspaper, they don't sell the product for the newspaper, all they do - as I wrote before - is providing a payment system. That would be like Visa taking 30% of all sales done by a newsstand.
But not only that, they are also telling the newspaper that they are not allowed to sell there product cheaper anywhere else than the price in the newsstand. Something that I think at least where I come from is against the law.

Re: Apple Launches Subscriptions For Content-Publishers On The App Store

I guess the model for media companies need to be "you can only download our iPhone app if you already have a subscription".

Imagine Audible, that I am a big user of. How can they survive with a 30% cut in earnings? It's a ridicules cut that they want when all they do is deliver a payment system.

If it wasn't for the apps, then I would not be buying an iPhone. But I guess Apple thinks that if it wasn't for the iPhone people wouldn't buy apps. Love my iPhone, but are seriously considering an android phone as my next.

Re: Google Crowdsources Content Farm Detection With A Chrome Extension

If only I could get an extension to block youtube channels

Re: Twitter Gets Sued For Letting Famous People Interact Online

Bullshit, and writing in caps does not make it more right. Idea's are worth nothing. The value is in what you do with the idea, and how you develop it. And sorry but China has a government policy to position itself on as many patents as possible. There goal is 1.000.000 a year. Far more than all the countries in America and Europe together. That is a policy that will strangle innovation all over the world.

A patent should not protect an idea just because you by chance was the first to patent that idea. But it should protect you from someone else copying an idea that you have used a lot of time and money in developing into a product.

Re: Twitter Gets Sued For Letting Famous People Interact Online

I totally agree.
