I have been carfree since 2017, technically, and I can relate to some of her psychological burdens, and I don't even have a family that includes very young children. Living in South Florida, I occasionally get those pangs of, "I wonder how it would be if I had a car now?" However, the thing is those pangs become more and more infrequent, as the car-free years add up, and when they do pop-up in my mind, they don't linger long.

Don't forget, that the PPP loan for small businesses and direct-to-individual stimulus packages under the C.A.R.E.S. Act was a BIPARTISAN effort that became law, signed by Trump. The Biden administration might have expanded it (with the help of Congress), but it was originally started under the Trump administration.

I would say that the programs worked by keeping millions of Americans out of poverty and many were able to stay employed during the worse parts of the pandemic. Yes, the PPP didn't help as many workers as first hoped, but it still helped thousands. The challenge was that the S.B.A. (Small Business Administration) simply didn't have the staff to monitor the PPP program like they should have, due to years of cut backs and underfunding, which led to massive fraud in certain areas.

I know it's the Hill, which is Right-leaning, but I find it interesting that the writer brings up the declining levels of trust in US media and he only focuses on what he PERCEIVES to be left-leaning media outlets and not the outlets that support crypto-fascists like Fox News (his own network) and OAN. Actually, the US is in arrears in payments to the WHO. Also, the US has made commitments to fund the organization that are couched in international law. So, the Trump administration might not be able to make a unilateral decision on a whim like that. Decisions like that must be properly thought-out AFTER the pandemic clears, where a full investigation can be carried-out.

I think the World Health Organization is doing a great job, considering their shoe-string budget that has practically been at the same level since the late-1990s; a budget that is comparable to a medium- to large-sized hospital system in the U.S.; about $2.5 billion.

The Trump administration should reconsider this decision, and put ego and personal vendettas aside and think about the overall work the organization is doing.

At least on a bus, I have the option to stand or to get off at the next stop with out having to worry about where to store my personal metal box wheels. Also, I don't have to constantly worry about lane divers and all the angst that comes with operating a motor vehicle in traffic. I leave that to a trained professional.
