Not to worry. We have a great young team that's growing up and we have a coach who knows what to do. The Lobos are 13-7 and (if I counted right) should finish 21-10, 9-7 in the conference by beating TCU and AF twice and winning home games against Utah and Wyoming. This also assumes we lose twice to BYU and once more to SDSU. But we do have to beat CSU there. Whether that gets us in 3rd place depends on how CSU and Utah perform in the rest of the season, especially against each other.

Sorry Coach Alford didn't work out there--I thought Dr Davis was great also. Maybe Coach Alford's success here is from a confluence of other things, such as an energetic fan base that had suffered under many underperforming predecessors over many years and was thrilled they had a team that could win so many games--especially with our weak inside game. Or maybe Coach Alford just gets smarter as he gets older, as we all do.

As we enjoy our great basketball team, let's remember that a big reason we got our terrific basketball coach is that sportswriters in Iowa somehow convinced local sports fans he was a bozo. Is this what the Albuquerque Journal sportswriters are doing in the case of football coach Mike Locksley?

I just don't understand all the shock and handwringing over the Lobo football team's losing season. When Sports Illustrated saw what we had at the beginning of the season and figured our only win would be over NMSU, it seems that everyone was on notice that things would be rough this year. So, please, get over it and support all those kids that are working so hard to become a good football team next year.

The suspension of Coach Locksley is an appropriate resolution of this matter. If he were to be fired, then likely all the assistant coaches would lose their jobs as the new head coach would want to bring in his own assistants. Then the recruiting would start all over and our players would be instructed by an entirely new staff next year. Not clear why the assistant coaches and the players, and ultimately the fans, should be punished just to be tough on Coach Locksley. Let's move on.
