"I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career." How can I put them to use behind MayDay?!? :-)

Re: Hosting Partner / Geek Storage.com, LLC

I am an extremely long-time customer (since back in the dr2 days!) and have nothing but good things to say about this team. They are professional and incredibly responsive when those rare issues do arise (and in the hosting world, this is inevitable). You can't ask for better service at their price-point!

Re: What Headphones Do You Use?

AKG K271 (Closed) Studio - For work.

AKG K240 (Semi-open) Studio - For home.

I much prefer the semi-open experience, but at work I like the isolation of the closed. More importantly, I listen to a lot of rap and wouldn't want to offend co-workers in close proximity.

Re: The Top 5 Reasons to Be a Jack of All Trades

As Robert A. Heinlein wrote, "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

I've always believed this, though my personal reasoning is most in line with the boredom argument. As soon as I understand something with any depth, I'm ready to move on. It's not the destination of knowledge but the journey of learning that I enjoy.

Seth Godin has tried to make me question that, but it's one of the few places he is short-sighted. As he writes, [paraphrased, badly] if you are looking to hire somebody, you hire the absolute best your money can afford. My retort: who then does that hiring?

Re: What should the Republicans do? (Scripting News)

There is an interesting discussion going on right now about the future of the Republican party.

The way I see it, they essentially have two choices:
1) Go the direction of Sarah Palin, further solidifying evangelicals as their primary constituants, or
2) Return to the roots of their ideals as described in their creed.

If the former is the direction they end up going, they will end up losing a lot of their base, as described here: http://open.salon.com/conte...

Re: I love my new Mac (list of cool utilities from Twitter)

I highly recommend Camino.
