Oh, you might have a trust fund, but you're definitely not a brat. The treatment is sort of cursory and dismissive -- they have to serve you, but they've seen a million of you with the same fussy demands and they're not in the mood. They don't have to engage with you, and they don't plan to.

It's probably not a rare thing in customer service in general, and it could have plenty of different causes, but I've been noticing it lately and I feel like it comes from my not looking like a member of the working class.

It's interesting that even people who MAKE culture, and do it well, could so misunderstand how (different aspects of) it work(s). But more than that it's interesting how something can matter without being considered legitimate. It's not really about Joanna Newsom and Lady Gaga, any more than it would really be about Proust and Arthur Conan Doyle, you know? Not specifically.

Though if lines were drawn between Newsomites and Little Monsters, the dispute would no doubt be a snazzily dressed one, on both sides.
