Where did I ever say I was purchasing a new system. I have been shooting Nikon for more than 30 years. I do have a Z 9 that is now about 4 years old and things move quickly. I don't think it is dramatic to state you would like to have features that are now present in other options. By your logic Canon and Sony should have never added pre capture at all.

I coped just fine. I mean what about when you only had manual focus before auto focus, how did you cope then? I suppose you are still on your F1?

We really do need a Z 9 II this year or a firmware update that gets us to at least 30 FPS raw with pre-capture. Nikon is now far behind in this area and there are photos that you can much more reliably get on Canon and Sony.

I am going to take a guess and say they are using the same code path they use for firmware updates. For firmware they push the update to the card and then trigger the camera to update itself, so the path is essentially the same as if you did it manually. This new settings app is likely the same, they ship the settings file to the card and then trigger the camera to import it.

Of course, you could do that over Bluetooth for the small settings files, however, if you have the code path in place in the firmware to move files over WIFI to the card it would be more efficient to continue to use that capability.

My biggest complaint is having so many different apps. Why not just have the NX Mobile app and enable it to do all of these things over WIFI or cable connection.

So you want a Z8 with slightly fewer megapixels and a slightly smaller body for $1500 less? I doubt the Z6 and Z7 series cameras will get internal log video or a stacked sensor. Feels like those features would remain in the higher end pro models.

I regularly get 5K+ shots on one battery in my Z9. Not sure those numbers listed above are worth much.

If it is a 600mm the expectation is that it will be an f/4. That is the bread and butter lens for so many wildlife and sports photographers. Obviously adapted lenes work fine but I can see why people want native glass. However, given they can't seem to grow the elements for the 400 or 800 fast enough to meet demand adding another large aperture super tele lens right now seems like a bad idea.

Switching to a crop changes a number of things that have nothing to do with file size. When you are ramping through high-speed shooting settings with a 400 2.8 going from FF to DX is a big deal. In general, I don't ever want 120 FPS but there are times when 60 would be cool.

I still stand by my statemen that it is messy. I get there are technical limitations, but those limitations, and they way they are exposed, make the product not as good.

Even given your logic above, I would have rather seen an FX and DX version of all of the modes along with the appropriate maximum size JPEG you can get in those modes.

I don't understand why 30 and 120 fps modes are full frame and the 60 fps is DX. Also, Nikon refusing to put a 12-bit raw mode in so we can have 30 fps RAW with pre-capture. I love so much of what they are doing but it feels like some of the high FPS modes are a bit of a mess and somewhat illogical.

American Football season has started and I photographed two games this past week. I had two cameras, my Z9 on my 400 2.8 G and my Z6II on my 70-200. I can tell you for sure that I am ready to sell my Z6II and either wait for another Z9 or buy a used D5 to use on my 400 2.8 so I can use my Z9 on my 70-200. There is just no comparison and I was happy with my Z6II and Z7 before I got my Z9.

Based on the guessed measurements if the 400 has a f/4.5 aperture value adding the 1.4 TC would put it at 560 f/6.3 (I think).

Seems like Nikon is going to have a phenomenal budget lineup for the super telephoto range.

It feels like Nikon has decided that, at least for now, their 800 f/5.6 is the 400 2.8 S + 2.0 TC. The little bit I have seen about this says it is better than the current 800 5.6

It is an incredible lens on the Z9. Fast autofocus, VR works great, incredibly sharp.

They already have, effectively. They have an incredibly 400 /2.8 and a very good 2x TC. This is all the new Canon is and I would bet if someone does a comparison the IQ is exactly the same.

You are probably right on the technical front. However, just looking at the numbers anything over f/4 wouldn't feel as good. I am sure optically it will be great.

The 500 has a 95mm front element. This would require a 100mm front element but shouldn't need to be longer than the 500. It just feels that only being 2/3 stop faster than the 100-400 and not being a zoom makes for an odd combination. Also, I expect the price to be the same as the 500 PF. So, unless they are going to give you a lens that is f/4 native and then 5.6 with the 1.4 teleconverter I just don't see how it fits.

I really hope it is an f/4 as that is the only thing that makes sense. In today's world I don't see a 4.5 so if the measurements are off on the smaller side, then you would more likely have a 5.6. However, you already have the 100-400 that is a f/5.6 so what would be the point of the 400 PF?

Seems like a built-in TC could be designed specifically to work with this lens and its elements which should make it superior to an addon.

I think the previous generation of 400 2.8 only had 7000 copies produced. I don't think those numbers warrent agressive pricing to raise marketshare.

I agree 12K even to 15K makes little difference. But I do think when you get byond 15K for a 400 you will likely take a marketshare hit.
