There is that whole 'have fun in meeting new people' and that 'do what you like and you'll meet other people that enjoy the same thing' mentality. That's how I met the Lady in Red - at a swing dance here in Seoul. Be charming. Interesting. Engaging. Have something to talk about beyond the weather or your classes - work is such a small part of life that it's barely worth repeating to a non-coworker.

It might be a little lame to self-promote - but once a month I write up an events calendar for what's happening around Korea. It's over at http://chrisinsouthkorea.bl.... A few cool things coming up:

May 21-22: Green Plugged - five stages of mostly Korean music with a 'green' theme. For more information and the lineup, check out greenplugged.com (English version supposedly available but not currently working) Noeul Park, in World Cup Park.

May 22-30: The 28th Sobaeksan Royal Azalea Festival - plenty of flowers to be seen in the Danyang / Sobaeksan area. Expect plenty of the pink flowers, a Royal Azalea Nymph Contest, and the "Walking Rally on Flowered Road". See the English language website for more information.

May 29- June 13: Time for a musical, Seoul Players style. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee comes to Roofers in Itaewon - 10,000 won cover. For more information, check out the Seoul Players website.

It should be noted that one can only transfer their visa six months into their current contract - otherwise you (supposedly) have to start the process all over again. You may not need ALL the paperwork, but it's good to have on hand. The only exception (as of 1 Feb 2010) is if your school goes out of business - at that point you can transfer without penalty. You'll need to have some paperwork that proves the old school actually closed.

You might be able to get a friend to be your agent to get a CRC - not the best solution, but it beats flying 7,000 miles to get a piece of paper.

Hmm.. it's a long-term design - not something you'll see in every subway in the near future.... The blue fabric-covered seats suggest line 1, although there's no telling which of the 14 subway lines they might renovate.

Hmm... there is something to be said about coming on too strong... but then again, would you want a guy who wasn't sexually... interested? The first e-mail might be a bit forward, but if they aren't approaching you on some level, you gotta kinda wonder...?

Regarding the Simpsons character - you may as well indict anyone that doesn't have a picture of themselves. Not everyone is as comfortable at showing themselves on a dating website.

Hopefully future boy-toys will realize there's more to you than a sexual being. Just don't take it personally if that IS one thing that happens to be noticed.

There's always going to be a reason to mistrust - whether people give you those reasons or you manufacture them yourself, there's always a reason to think you're better off alone. So maybe you're alone for awhile and the hardened heart begins to soften a bit.

All things considered, you're in no hurry. There's no law that says you have to be in a serious relationship all the time. Even if there were, f*** it. Take your time. If the boy can't / won't wait around, move on.

There's more than one way to eat a Reese's - at least that's how the old commercial goes. While my blog isn't so personally out there, it was usually mentioned in that 'getting to know you' / 'networking' phase. Somewhere between your name and your life history. Is that the best place for it? Earlier is usually better - that way they can't say they didn't know. It's not like you have the most popular blog on earth - or that EVERYBODY will know who Adjusshi is. Except for a few personal details, you've been very good not to cross the line of TMPI (Too Much Personal Information) about them. I seriously doubt anybody could pick him out of a crowd, or even a lineup.

Well, I didn't tell you so. If guys can't handle being commented on while being kept anonymous, that's their problem. The guy you want is confident, able to take a little criticism - and praise when warranted - without overly deflating his ego.

Even if he didn't know about your blog... At what point would you tell him? It's a little awkward to be seriously dating someone for a few months and find out she's been blogging about you the whole time.

You've got to ask how hard they had to look to find these women though. You can't exactly be too bright here - gaining weight, no period, and all that other stuff a straight guy like me is supposed to know about.

It's also possible they fudged a bit to get on a TV show.

Seconding the 'shared interests' meme. Before I met the Lady in Red (now my fiance), my best luck with Korean ladies came at swing dances, parties with a specific theme, or other various club-type events. Something where you're already likely to have something in common :)

There is a hostel near Namsan Park and Myeongdong - call them at 02-319-1318. More information - www.kyha.or.kr. Two others: Dreamtel Youth Hostel, near Gimpo (02-2667-0535), and Seoul Olympic Youth Hostel, around Olympic Park, 02-410-2114.

Realistically, most love motels around the city will be more than enough for your needs, and fairly cheap. Unless you're a bare bones traveler, stay in a regular hotel and arrange for a discount for your longer stay.
