An excellent article, Mr Miyagi. I'm glad there's now some coverage in the MSM about academic blogging. It's an exciting development, which sadly gets overshadowed by the scandals you mentioned.

IIRC, this is not the first time Party Political Broadcasts have been aired. I believe the amount of air time given to these were a source of contention in the pre-Internet age, as the opposition parties, particularly the minor ones which are now under the SDA, were allocated a very brief proportion of air time. This was presumably commensurate with the number of constituencies each party constested.

But my memory of this is very hazy. Don't take my word for it.

Hey Kevin, my tree is expanding sideways thanks to my cousins who have joined Geni since I wrote about it. One of them even overtook me in the number of profiles added! Yes, the game element works very well.

As things are, I am now limited by the extent of my uncle's and auntie's memories. Any further progress on the tree will require some digging at the Registrar of Births and Deaths and possibly KL Archives (where my mum's parents' church-related records are now stored).

Even though there's may be a roadblock in real life, there's still lots to do in Geni. Slowly scanning old photos and uploading them in Geni. When I wrote the post, I hadn't started on that.

Geni's photo page is another nice feature, but I hope it can be refined to be like Facebook's Photos application. Right now in Geni, you can easily indicate who in the family was in a particular photo. What is needed is a way to indicate exactly where that person is in the photo too. Especially important in large group photos.

No such Super Suite Deal in Asia. Predictably, the 2004 Student and Teacher version is only eligible for 2008 Home and Student edition. Bleah.

The editions thing really isn't too surprising... At least it's 'just' three instead of the million and one editions of Vista.

Wow, I enabled stats a couple of hours ago and it's ready. They said it might take a day. Heh, maybe that means I don't have that many photos hosted on Flickr.

The new uploader is really nice (for Mac too!) I think a lot of people will appreciate the small touches like the ability to manually arrange the upload order and the creation of sets on upload and not after the whole set is done.

Now, if they can add the people tagging functionality a la Facebook (and Zooomr?) that would be really sweet!
