Without teaching hacking, the future of network security would be the same as it is today, or worse. In my opinion, most of the hackers out there are not acquiring their skills solely from the classroom, or even in the classroom at all. It is a necessity in our program, to learn both directions of the skill, hacking and preventing hacks. It is common in other skills. For example, wouldn't it be easier to properly disassemble a spacecraft if you were the one who assembled it? And don't government agencies learn tactical skills with firearms which could be used to potentially murder someone? Even though hacking is a little bit different, I think spreading the knowledge of it would only benefit us in a security standpoint.</p>
