Chalice had the guts to run her mouth and pipe in not hours after my first post because she thought i was stupid. yet when called out in public she fails to respond.'

I check this blog once a week or so, mostly because of this story. My fast reply to your first entry was coincidence. But thanks for 'exactly thinking so'. It shows with what kind of mindset you are discussing here.

'which last i heard he just sold a new version to the entire nicholas family mafia. one that includes the ability to not only hack LL servers but directly attack any computer connected to the internet.'

So I heard a friend of a friend talked to somebody who knows an FBI agent..

Yeah, I know that VLife was sold to the nicholaz mafia, but also to my knowledge, that was..jesus. Almost a year ago? Again, your info is outdated.

'you say that the source for PSL is available?'

I said it is available to those that have the binary and want the source, as per GPL. And yes, I had an e-mail exchange with the Free Software Foundation itself to make sure this works.

'please link. and the ways to hack SL using emerald... do i really have to point it to you? by editing one xml file.. which for you folks that dont develop software the xmls are what makes up what you see. not what is done. but by editing one line in an xml file you can bypass the checks for emerald to not copy prims that arent yours. making it a full fledged copybot.'

That was fixed -several- Emerald versions ago. Hack the XML, try to export. Be my guest. See what happens.

'crashing the sim with emerald is easy. flood the sim with thousands of particle beams and agent updates.'

Can I get a demo of that? I never even slowed down a sim with high agent updates (your agent updates are limited by your FPS by the way). If you can crash the sim with the particles, I want a demo. I am dead serious here, because this needs fixing then.

'free uploads you are right it does involve the temp trick. and you are right. those textures arent added to LL database. but tell me chalice... what happens when you drop that temporary texture in a notecard and save it?'

To my knowledge this should not work, as the notecard gets its data about the stored asset..from the asset servers in the first place, and the temporary texture is not there. if that worked, hat would not only be a bug in Emerald that needs fixing, but it first and foremost also needs to be SEC Jira'd, as it'd also be a flaw in LL's system itself. I'll try to repro it later.

'and all thanks to the grids favorite undercover griefer viewer. EMERALD.'

Thanks for calling 18k people griefers. I am sure they will appreciate it.

'all the way down to stealing scripts. thats right. we all know that alias turbo was behind the quantum core attacks. every time darling brody comes up with something new.'

I don't know the details of what happened, but I know he and Darling are on good, or at least communicative terms. Just so you know.

'lets see all your code. to alias... lets see the source to vlife.
to chalice lets see the source to psl
to cryo lets see the source to cryolife'

1. leave him an e-mail
2. GTeam itself has a copy of the code, and I still happily connect with it if I want to. I quite honestly don't feel like spreading the code of my baby (what was missing from Emerald is in emerald now anyways), given that it was just a fun thing for friends in the first place. Just let it rest. I quite simply don't want people running around with PSL. It's dead, stopped, gone. The private project is over, and those that had it moved on to Emerald, as it has the features (Doubleclick TP, Phantom, long sound playback etc.)
3. Ask him yourself.

None of the othe Emerald devs check the blog aside of me...and the source thing is up to them. I can't tell them to do it. But I hope you realize that you are asking for the open sourcing of potentially malicious code for everybody to use. Something you are complaining about in the first place. Think about that for a moment.

'and what is very odd about emerald is this. code that they give you is not all the code you should be given.'

Which code is missing? Really, it's an honest question, because I don't think we are missing anything as per GPL.

'as the viewer is directed to connect to their website. which is located in africa so god only knows what local laws they have there.'

First off, the site is in germany, as is the server, directly paid for and rented by Jcool. As is the domain, which is registered with 1And1. This all was stated in the link to the Modular systems website that I dropped earlier in a post and which you obviously didn't bother to read. If there ever were criminal activities going on, it would take no time at all for the authorities to get JCool's address and name. None at all. Think about that.

'and code is executed on their servers and relayed back to the viewer.'

Yes, and everybody can look through the Emerald code to see what is done with the relayed data. There are three times it connects to the website:

1. The login page, to get teh LL blog links, Modularsystems blog links, and the user-submitted login screen images.
2. To possibly get updates to the clients.xml file, which gets used to show the tags above people's heads. People get asked on first login if they want to enable that feature.
3. If somebody tries to hack the xml file to get full exports (hint hint) it instead saves an xml of a giant, helicopter-rotored prim-penis that attaches to their head on-reimport.

'i am going to begin a complete overview of the emerald code.'

Please. Please do. I can only encourage that.

'im sorry. but unless you can provide the source to those viewers which ARE STILL IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT '

Again, I can only say that to my knowledge, they are not. As stated before, your nicholaz example is not up to date. Cryolife itself is spread by idiots not connected to Cryo at all.

'then how can you sit here and trash someone who has complied with the GPL while violating it yourself?'

I never did :> And you know exactly why people are complaining about Neillife..if that is what you are referring to?

'i dont like copybots either but how dare you sit here and try to act all innocent and perfect. you are nothing but a hypocrite and should be treated as such.'

Why me? As I already said, I dislike VLife. Cryolife, etc. I think it was pure idiocy to ever make them. I AR people who actively copybot, and I tend to get people who use Cryolife estatebanned. I spend alot of money monthly in SL shops on wares I like and love. You are barking up the wrong tree here, and the fact that I, along with several other known good names in the community work on Emerald despite the known past of some other devs should tell you that, yes, said past is over, and that the intentions of Emerald development are good ones.

I understand that you are agitated over some of the member's pasts. We -know- people are. I -said- that in my first blog entry here, openly. And I personally fully understand. But such conflict and problems should be taken up with the referred-to devs personally, instead of hurting an opensource project that is, quite frankly, fun, harmless, and supposed to help the community. Those with a shady past are not the driving force behind Emerald. It's the team as a whole, no matter what they did in the past, and the team as a whole stands behind Emerald's code. As I stated above, if you find some crashing code..tell us. If you find code that can be abused (like the export xml thing which is, again, fixed), tell us. We even have a public bug tracker for all to see (http://lawlinter.net/tracker).

All in all, I hope this cleared some things up

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

Last but not least, something to think about:

http://www.modularsystems.s...

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

Hokay, normally I don't answer to a pile of misinformation like this, but I feel like setting some things straight.

"then trash emerald as well seeing as how you can do the same thing with emerald. neil didnt just add that to emerald. EMERALD ALLOWS IT BY DEFAULT."

Emerald does not allow you to export any content you aren't the owner of, and that isn't fullperm. Neil allows any setup of prims to be exported, no matter what the perms, no matter if you are the owner or not.

"there are ways to use the emerald viewer to hack free uploads to second life."

Yes. it's called 'file -> upload image', and checking the 'temporary' checkbox. Upload of tempoary images is free through LL's system, as the images do not get stored on the asset server, but only the sim you are in, and they vanish again soon..usually within the hour.

"and inside emerald there are ways to crash sims."

I admit I am amused by this. Where are you getting such a clever tidbit of information? Actually, can you please point at the code that does this? The source can be gotten from our homepage.

"so is anyone surprised that emerald has the power to copybot prims. crash sims and hack free uploads? NO. im not surprised."

No, you are just misinformed about alot of details.

"and this is why half of the dev team are jumping from one name to another because of permabans and scared half to death to let the world know who they are cause they will get banned."

We...do? Is that why we list our in-world names on the homepage? See http://www.modularsystems.s...

I guess that's also why I only have one main account that is close to 1000 days old. I'm such a mean namejumper.

"which if i am not mistaken according to the GPL which is what LL uses. all viewers MUST RELEASE THIER SOURCE CODE."

Agreed. All parties who obtain the binaries are supposed to be able to request the source code, and it needs to be handed to them. My PSL was like this, Emerald releases the source with every binary release.

"alias. chalice. cryo. they will never do it because then how can they continue to rape money from people that dont know any better."

I did not have a hand in vlife creation or distribution, nor was I ever in possession of it. Or any other ToS breaking viewer at all. Actually, I rather clearly started when I first heard about these viewers, and my opinion of them in my first comment of this blog post. I also stated that to my knowledge, none of those viewers are created/spread/leaked anymore. You will have to look into the direction of Neil or the PN for that, who quite openly are making them now. I don't see a rant of yours over there tho.

All in all, invest a little more time in backing up your claims with more recent and valid information before dropping a Blog comment like that. It would make your words more plausible instead of far from the truth.

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

I'd have no problem with that, Gwyn :) At all.
Tho you'd have to explain in a few words what it is about, since most of the people might just wonder where that 'PSL' babble is suddenly coming from.;P

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

Yes neil, I just wrote a whole big paragraph about the history and creation of PSL, in case you did not notice :>

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

P.S. something to add:

No. Neil does not 'work on Emerald'. Nor does N3xis. They both have taken the Emerald source, and are making their own viewers with it. Flexilife, to my knowledge, being a legal client, and Neillife being a pile of permission violations and griefmaterial. It doesn't really surprise me that Neil has acted the way he did, in regards to Gwyneth and the notecard. But why this falls back on Emerald itself, as I said, I have no idea.

Re: Spammers are disseminating a new illegal SL client under my name [UPDATED AGAIN]

Quote

"Current Developers:
Chalice Yao- creator of psl client which is also closed source and did provide physics freeze of objects rest were tos compliant. Gemni creator skillz hack got half of psl's functions and put it in her client along with emerald thats how she first gave out everything."

Kind of Correct. PSL was actually how I first got into the while viewer coding thing :> I took the normal client..1.20 or 1.21 at the time things started, I think, and just started tinkering, tweaking, modding things. Some of my friends noticed, and I showed them what I did..and gave them access to it. So, yes, it was kind of a personal hobby, with me and a close circle of friends enjoying the viewer. The 'physics freezing', or Physics Interceptors as they are called, were a relateively late addition. It stemmed from me and most PSLers hanging out in the Weapons Testing sandbox, so it was a good method to stop griefers attacking oneself with physics. We even used the functionality often enough to prevent griefers from physics-crashing the sim. I intentionally limited its max range to 20m, default was 5M with that range not being too easily changable, and I made sure it turned off on TP, logins etc. The intention behind them was a purely defensive thing. The functionality itself is ToS compliant, unless used in a griefing manner, a thing I greatly discouraged in the PSL group.

During the time I also started exchanging ideas, code and concepts with other makers of private clients that I've known. As for Skills, she was a PSL user before making Gemini, so yes, some of its functionality is either directly inspired by PSL, or even comes from code I handed to her. The same goes for LGG, whose LGG proxy and plugins are also very PSL inspired, as he was a PSL user when making it. So no, nothing there got 'stolen' in terms of ideas or code. It's all consentual.

During that time, also some of the more notoriously known private clients were born, like VLife and Cryo. Did I know about them? Sure. Did I like them? Nah. Not at all. To this day I still take pride in PSL having been a fully ToS compliant client, and the users of it actually had a certain sense of security through that.
Alas, all good things come to an end, and after suffering some burnout due to RL and PSL starting to be painful to maintain due to the growing userbase which went past my close friends circle, I decided to stop. I fonud my fun in client coding again not too much later by joining the Emerald team, since I've known most of its members from a good while ago. What Emerald didn't have yet in terms of what PSL had in functionality, I now have added..aside of the physics interceptors. They will not go in, as I myself would have never added such a feature in a publically spreading client. They also will never get added, ever. The decision is set in stone between all Emerald devs.

And now, I am happy that I can contribute to Emerald. Have scepticism or criticism when it comes to some of the dev team's pasts..I don't blame you. It's normal, and of course it's also normal to view Emerald itself with skepsis due to it.
As I mentioned before, I myself had my share of annoyances and bad thoughts when it came to older clients that were in the making..but those clients aren't made anymore, aren't spread anymore, not by them. Some got leaked, to my knowledge, but whatever you may hear about them..none of the Emerald team's members are behind them anymore.

Currently all this team wants is to give the people the ideas and possibilites, the code that was shared and enjoyed in private before. Something to make the residents happy with, and in a way to do what Linden Lab isn't doing..making a client that steadily progresses with innovation and features. I can only invite you to have the Emerald code dissected, to have the packets it sends sniffed, to debug its binary. We cannot stop people from making bastardized, non-ToS compliant offshoots. It's not surprising that this happens..Emerald is, IMO, a wonderful base to start your own client on, for good or for bad. But I know that Emerald itself is a clean thing I and the others can take pride in. The witchhunt, and the repeated untrue rumors about it being bugged, malicious or evil in intentions are starting to hurt, I must say..but for my own part, I will just continue to sit it out. Human nature always needs a scapegoat. Why this hits Emerald itself, instead of the idiots who are activately making malicious offspring..I don't know. I just hope you will give my words some thought.

--Chalice Yao
