HTML as disempowering obscurantist bullshit.

Re: Netflix and the online discussion problem

Good plan. In Britain we have a bunch of +1 channels i.e. the channel is an hour behind (ITV3 +1 , Channel 4 + 1 etc. etc.) - therefore we need Twitter+1 for people watching on the +1 channels.

Re: Older techies and outliners

I think you are right. I am 49, and had I not known about Scripting News I would have only known about outliners from a friend a few years older than me who was fanatical about them - I forget what he used, it was a DOS program.

Re: "Assume you saw the news"

That reminds me of a joke, someone sent a telegram to the House Of Lords saying 'flee Bishop, all is discovered', and 3 of them were found on the next boat-train to France.

Re: We're not doing software right

There's nothing to stop you using Turbo Pascal now, it does exactly what it did then.
On the other hand, I do get your point - it was possible to develop adequate software based on picking up the software and its documentation (and maybe a book). That was true with MFC or Visual Basic on Windows too - don't think it is true with 'the web', though. Too many workarounds piled on workarounds piled on workarounds.

Re: A decent week for Zürich

Late comment, only just found your blog...

I firmly believe that Mr Brule should be confined to his 'most liveable city' of the year by being followed 24/7 by armed guards ordered to prevent him leaving. Perhaps the thought of actually spending a year in Zurich or Copenhagen would concentrate his mind on his criteria.
