I figured this was probably due to some network hardware, somewhere, and I could interact with the repo normally from another machine, so it seemed likely that VirtualBox's network hardware was the issue.

Re: Craigslist Scammers - Chris Dzombak

I'm glad this helped!

Re: How Rdio Can Kill Spotify (and vice-versa) - Chris Dzombak

One point I neglected to mention in this post was pointed out on Twitter by @andrewa2 (https://twitter.com/#!/andr... ):

@rdio's webapp means that links to playlists, users, etc. are easily sharable and discoverable, and visiting them brings you to a usable, well-designed page.

@spotify's playlist links are like iTunes links – they require you to open the desktop app to view the content or interact with it in any way.

Rdio's more open, Web-style linking interface is much preferable.

Re: How Rdio Can Kill Spotify (and vice-versa) - Chris Dzombak

I'll check that out - thanks for the pointer! Assuming you're using bash, try executing these commands, then running Jekyll in the same shell:

export LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8

If that seems to work, add those to your .bashrc and/or .bash_profile.
Hope that helps - I'm by no means an expert on Jekyll or anything Ruby-related; I know just enough to be dangerous. And thanks - happy to hear you like my design!

Re: Datasheet for RadioShack Phototransistor

I didn't even notice that when I posted this - I think I just read it as 20 mA.

Yes, I think the light current is probably supposed to be 20 mA. Having a dark current > light current (even though dark current is so small) doesn't make any sense.

Re: Perfect ViewVC On Dreamhost

I don't know off the top of my head - I only know how to set these up; I'm not familiar with the internals of them at all.

I'd start by looking at Pygments, though - there must be a list of color-able file types somewhere, and you probably just need to add .c files to it and associated them with the proper highlighter (look for the .cpp file type to see how it works).

Re: Symbian-Guru’s 2009 Top 5 Free Java Applications

I've thought about that, but I actually doubt it. As much as I'd like to blame it on AT&T instead of Nokia/Symbian, I can't see why AT&T would require that.

The carrier wants me to use as much data as possible without thinking about it, I'm sure. More data transferred == more $$.

Re: Symbian-Guru’s 2009 Top 5 Free Java Applications

Unfortunately, on my phone (the E71x), the only options for network access are "Not allowed" and "Ask every time". I'm hoping there is some other, secret way to get around this - possibly the same sort of process as signing a .sisx file?

Thanks for the suggestion, though.
- Chris

Re: Symbian-Guru’s 2009 Top 5 Free Java Applications

I'd love to use the Gcal app, but the phone asks me for permission about twenty times each time I want to view a day's worth of events. This, of course, makes the app just about unusable. (Not the app's fault! From what I can see, the app itself is great.)

I've looked around some and didn't find a solution to this; is there anything I can do to stop these permission requests? I have the same problem with the Gmail app, too, which I would otherwise love. If anyone can help me, I'd be very grateful.

Re: Preview Of Waze Social GPS Navigation For Symbian

I have an E71x, and I can't wait until I can use this! They are perhaps not the most practical choice, but they are undeniably cool and (usually) fun to use.

I don't really write very much. The new site looks great, as do the docs. I’m looking forward to looking through the ‘Learn" section; hopefully, that’ll encourage me to use Prototype on some of the stuff I’m working on. I’ve been meaning to look into it for some time, and this removes just about any excuse I could use to excuse myself from learning Prototype.

Good work.
