There are two options: change this city for the better or drive the nail in the coffin. It'll be tough to stay if this dies.

Re: Why I Chose Zurb Foundation

There's something missing from this post. I didn't talk about why we started using Foundation/Bootstrap/Blueprint.

Back in the day, there were six developers sitting in a room swearing and shouting and typing madly at their keyboards trying to put the form on the left and the table on the right. I'd worked with grids before, so we tried to build our own, every time, with no intention of reuse. That didn't go so well.

Foundation made sense for us because of the reasons above but also because it introduced conventions. Any one of us could style (and I use that term loosely) an app and it would be presentable. Not great, but presentable. That was a big improvement. We knew which classes did what. Doug was throwing together prototypes on his own.

When Ryan and Kristin joined the team, it was easy for them to get started. They were both pretty new to CSS and web application development, so Foundation acted almost like "training wheels". Since then, they're all digging in and reading SMACSS and that process is changing.

Maybe it's time for us to do something different. If we do, we'll need to remember those conventions and make sure it's something all of us understand at some level.

Re: Why I Chose Zurb Foundation

I agree. These tools are all about empowerment and, at many points, prototyping. If you're going to use a framework, commit to it. When it hurts, get out.

We learned that on the Gaslight site. We pushed hard on the Foundation topbar when it may have made sense to create our own.

Re: Why We Wrote a Blog

Yep. @joelturnbull is the blog editor, so he posts most of the stuff anyway.

Re: Why We Wrote a Blog

It started as pulling Markdown from the repo, but I hate front matter and all the other database-in-a-text-file ideas. I even considered using Grit and trying to figure out publish times.

In the end, the simplest thing was to paste Markdown and set the metadata.

Re: Welcome to our new space

Nice space!

Re: Why I Chose AngularJS

Apparently we're all doing it wrong. Those are what used to be called "web steps" and they're kind of bad news. It's okay to be that specific in your definitions, but you should be more general in the scenarios. Something like "When I choose to change Jack's name" leaves the details of the implementation for the definitions.

Re: http://blog.gaslightsoftware.com/post/26347241895

Hypermedia all the things!

Re: Movin’ and Shakin’

I know it's something you can infer from this post, but "ci(" or 'ci"' changed my editing habits forever.
