I was a student at CCS in the 80s &amp; 90s who was Jewish and I witnessed firsthand racism and anti-semitism from time to time both from other students and sometimes subtly from a teacher or two that were there at that time. It was by no means an everyday thing, maybe a few instances that stand out from my memory of being a student there. Most people in Cambridge, other students I grew up with, and the teachers and staff at CCS were great! But I doubt any non-whites or non- Christians that have ever called Cambridge home never dealt with bigotry on occasion. I moved away after college but Cambridge is much more diverse now than it was 20 years ago and maybe this flag is a reaction to that changing landscape of this small upstate NY town by some racist white nationalist. At the same time there has been of late quite a bit of bad jokes, humor in poor taste, and pranks with a racist undertone, much expressed on the internet with trolling and on 4chan, but occasionally with things like leaving a racist flag on school property or a noose in African American museum in D.C. Bad attempts at irony and attention grabbing with a partisan agenda that the perpetrator thinks is harmless but which many find quite hurtful and oppressive. This could very well be the work of some very uninformed undereducated provincial youngster, bored/stoned/both out of there mind who frankly made a bad choice. There are racist bad apples in all of rural America, there are also some uneducated uninformed people in rural American, sometimes the two worlds collide...go figure. Hopefully there will be a thorough investigation and get to the bottom of it but it might just be joke in bad taste. Same in Washington.</p>
