It is not true client/server multitasking, more a kin to old days "green threads". There are apps you can't do for the iPhone, if they do not match the pseudo-multitasking constraints defined by Apple:
http://www.pcworld.com/arti...

Re: corte.si - A Farewell to ORMs

I agree, the "impedance mismatch" is not magically solved by an ORM. Frankly, I've yet to truly see the benefits of an ORM, although it does make CRUD easier at first sight at the cost of complexity and non-transparency. The best solution I've seen so far is LINQ which sounds not too distant to SQLAlchemy.

Re: Her er lskellen st- Din karriere

Re: World Views - Miguel de Icaza

Ah if only we could get rid of Microsoft's marketing and business people, those who seem to have a hard time adapting to this new world of choice and openness. As a Java developer I find that I frequently run into a moderate version of RS who refuse to even look at the technology. I believe this is an unfortunate consequence of Microsoft's track record and the fact that those haters will not take any part in revitalizing Microsoft (or their technology) in any way, shape or form.
So as a practitioner with great admiration for the C# language, I could hope that eventually Microsoft would embrace open source fully. If they had done so already, Java would not just be stale, it would be a ghost reduced to haunting legacy systems. As such, I can only support Miguel in his endeavors to let technology win over religion. What are we anyway, engineers or priests?

Re: Pictures: ECMA 334/335 January 2003 - Miguel de Icaza

Pocket protectors are very American thing, which explains why Anders does not use that.
Nice insight with these pictures. As a casual follower of Mono I am aware of the radical Stallman (Miguel is not the only one to not blindly obey this high priest). Did Stallman get on Twitter or something? lol

Re: MonoDevelop 2.2 Beta 1: We go cross platform. - Miguel de Icaza

On the other hand, you can run Java on Mono whereas not the other way around. You have got to wonder why that is, given the fact that C# is, for all practical purposes, the next generation of Java (or rather, what most people except Sun would like to see in Java).

Re: MonoDevelop 2.2 Beta 1: We go cross platform. - Miguel de Icaza

Dear community, did someone make a packed up deb for us Debian/Ubuntu users?

Re: Google Gear Vs Java Ajax

OO is not all perfect, you can try to squeeze the entire world into this view but it will fail you eventually - just try to hook up a RDBMS and see some of the issues. Meanwhile, JavaScript already has closures etc. which we will never see in Java. I don't disagree with the desire to have a strong static language in the browser, but that's just not how the reality looks like.

Java had it's chance on the browser and failed miserably, probably Sun's greatest mistake (out of a great many) not to seek a tighter and more efficient integration. All existing plugin/container RIA technologies suffer from similar problems and you immediately loose out of the greatest thing about the Internet, namely the lowest-common-denominator and the ability to consume a resource from anywhere (i.e. you will never be able to put Java on the iPhone, even if technically possible Apple forbids it).

Browsers are getting faster and with more features. There's also the issue of addressability and discoverability. I think your mindprod website is one out of 100 that uses some form of client Java and while very useful, it's not long ago I was afraid of browsing your site due to Java crashing my browser.

Re: Moonlight 2.0 goes Beta - Miguel de Icaza

Not really seing a lot on the Silverlight sites I try out, even after right clicking and selecting "Install Microsoft Mediapack" (On 64x Ubuntu).

Btw. this blog entry is not listet on http://tirania.org/blog/, only discoverable through the RSS feed.

Re: Moonlight 2.0 goes Beta - Miguel de Icaza

Object not found! Og nej, det skyldes ikke overvægt, men forklares vel ved at rumpen og det nederste af ryggen hviler længere nede i madressen en resten af kroppen - altså man sover ikke helt udstrakt.
