The starting with "I know the Church is true" then justifying it after without seriously considering the alternative. The have seen different Mormons make a case why different opposing parties most uphold the standards of the Church. Basically the hardcore republicans will vote republican regardless of the candidate then form a justification for the decision they had already made. I do wonder if the gender or even parties of the candidates were swapped how the people now defending them would describe them. I bet if Trump were a democrat the media would be accused of distorting the image of him.

Re: 10 developer phrases that mean something completely different

I thought that when developers were bored and wanted an argument that they would try and define "Agile" or critique whether any given company management practice was "agile" or "truly agile".

Re: Google Tumacz

Perhaps I should make a more mature and grown up response. I wonder if there is a problem in the UK that basically we are all just far too cynical. I think of Frank Whittle inventing the Jet Engine but it ended up that the US developed it because of a lack of willingness in the UK for anyone to invest in developing the invention. This was a long time ago but how much does this problem still apply today? I think there are a lot of bright people inventing things but if those with the money to develop those ideas are too cynical to invest in them it is left to some other country to develop them.

There is also the matter of our culture towards pay structure. In the UK culturally people are not paid so much for what they know as for how important they are. The big earners are those in management but those in management may often know less about the practicalities of what a company does than the people at the bottom. The people at the bottom may not want to go into management because it distances them from what they enjoy doing. This can leave a lot of very innovative and competent people working away in low level positions. They want to use new technology. They want to do innovative things. The problem is the managers who actually have the authority to make that happen may not be the most competent or well informed. Scott Adams with Dilbert hits so close to the real truth in so many ways. How many pointy haired bosses have squashed innovation simply because they are not clued up enough to understand the benefits or what the innovators are trying to achieve? The people with the knowledge lack the authority and the people with the authority lack the knowledge.

About the Yorkshire thing perhaps I can expand on my rather flippant remark. I grew up in Yorkshire. One thing which I saw there which makes me sad when I see it is how people can artificially limit their horizons. There is a whole world out there full of exiting things and technology and innovation but some people don’t think much beyond their immediate area. It is sad for there to be a world full of amazing people and ideas but for some their universe cannot extend beyond Dewsbury and Batley and Heckmondwike and on a nice sunny day a trip into Leeds or Huddersfield. It isn’t so much that this is just a Yorkshire thing, it can exist all over but it is sad to see people who have closed their minds and limited their thinking. That kind of mindset doesn’t innovate and may actively resist new fangled technology and ideas. I don’t know if I am making sense to you but it makes sense to me.

Re: Google Tumacz

I blame Yorkshire People for the problem. It is all their fault.
